Failure

Miranda POV

*flashback*

I was sitting on my bed when Mother burst in the room.

"Miranda! What is this?" She held up the small bag she found probably searching through my backpack.

"Nothing." I responded quietly.

"Cocaine? Seriously Miranda? Why can't you be like your brother? He never does anything wrong! And here you are doing drugs and failing classes! I wish you would stop being such a failure. The last thing our family needs is you." She turned on her heel and slammed the door.

*flashback ends*

This kind of thing happened all the time. That is, until I left. I ran away with my belongings to Los Angeles. It not like anyone cared about me back in Texas anyways. I did not have friends and Mitch and I couldn't be any different, we hated each other.

At 21 years old I go to UCLA and share an apartment with my friend Delaney. We both study music management and plan to work for record labels in the future. The moment I left Texas was probably the best moment of my entire life.

Now, no one is here to tell me I'm a complete failure and that my family would be better without me. I'm done with my mom's verbal abuse. As for my brother, I haven't contacted him since I left 4 years ago. My life is so much better now.

My boyfriend, Steven, also attends UCLA and studies business. We've only been together for about 2 months and so far, so good. I hope this relationship doesn't end as badly as my other relationship. But that's a story for later on...

Together, Del and I walked to class and took our seats. Class was in a huge building with rows upon rows of desks. There we met up with our friends Dylan and Corey. "I heard professor is giving out internships to the first 5 people who volunteer." Corey stated.

"What's it for?"

"Apparently, they get to work at a local record label and even meet celebrities."

"We should do it!"

"Why?"

"This could be our chance to actually boost a career!"

The conversation kept going and we all agreed to go for the internship. Luckily, all four of us got the job along with a blonde girl I've never seen before.

We start tomorrow.
