Miranda POV

*next day*

Steven invited me to his house for lunch. We've been dating for about 3 weeks but with this new internship, I don't see him very often. I got to his house a little late, but I was still excited to see him.

When I rang the doorbell his light brown hair was a mess and his clothes were tattered. "You were supposed to be here an hour ago." He said angrily as he pulled me towards him. "Steven what's wrong with you, are you okay?"

He pulled his face close to mine and roughly tried to kiss me. His breath reeked of alcohol and I understood this sitaution. I pushed away from his drunk self, but he pulled me back towards him. "Steven stop."

"You never had a problem with it before."

"You're drunk! Let go you're hurting me!"

"Don't tell me what to do." He slapped me across the face and memories flooded my mind.

**flashback**

"You will never be good enough!! You might as well kill yourself!! Everyone would be happier anyways. Get out!" Mother screamed at me as she kicked me repeatedly. I yelled for help but wasn't lucky. She stopped when she realized I could barely move. "I never want to see you again." She mumbled as she walked out of the room.

I packed my things as fast as possible and left as quickly as I could. Knowing that I'd never come back.

**end of flashback**

"Steven were done." I said as strong as possible.

"I'm the one who makes the decisions about the relationship." Said the drunk.

"No Steven, goodbye. This is over."

"Mir-" I left his apartment and drove away making sure he wasn't following me. I hope he got the message. I don't need a repeat of my last relationship...

Scott POV

I called Kirstie and asked her to help me with my plan. All we have to do is get Mitch and Miranda together and talking. The only problem is we have to make sure Miranda doesn't kill Mitch. They are both really stubborn so I do not know how this will go.

Kirstie is in charge of getting Mitch to the location and I'm in charge of Miranda. We're going to lock them in one of the rooms in Mitch and I's apartment.

I texted Miranda and asked her if she wanted to watch movies with Kirst and I tonight. Luckily, she agreed so at least that much is figured out. As long as Kirstie's half works out.

*5 hours later*

Kirstie already had Mitch in the guest bedroom despite his constant complaining and wondering what the hell was going on. After 10 minutes he gave up banging on the door since we locked it on the outside.

I heard a knock on the door. Miranda. Here we go!

Miranda POV

I knocked on Scott's door, he has a huge apartment. He answered the door, "Hey Miranda!"

"Hey Scott you ready to watch movies?"

"Oh you know it! C'mon let me show you the movie room."

"Alright." He led me down the hallway and up to a door. First he unlocked it then practically shoved me in. Is he kidnapping me? I heard him lock it again and yelled, "What the fuck Scott!"

"Kirstie did the same thing to me to." Mitch said from the other side of the room. Wait...Mitch??? What's going on???

"I can't believe this. I told Scott I wasn't going to talk to you so now he's trying to force me. IT'S NOT GOING TO WORK SCOTT." I yelled the last part and sat down at the edge of the bed. Mitch stayed silent, staring at the window. I didn't even have my phone on me...

Someone, I think Kirstie, said, "Were not going to let you out until you talk to each other. Up to you..."

Still I didn't dare talk to Mitch, he doesn't even deserve an explanation. Mitch kept glancing at me before he finally decided to speak up. "I don't know why you're so mad at me, I never did anything to hurt you." He looked straight at me but I refused to meet his glance.

"Miranda...please, please talk to me. I need to know what I did. How can I do anything if you won't even tell me? You're leaving me in the dark here."

"Stop acting like you don't know." I muttered.

"I don't! This doesn't make sense. One day you were home and the next day you were gone and now you're blaming me!"

"You could've saved me but you never did, not once!"

"Wha-"

"You watched her abuse me and you just sat there! I almost died multiple times! And you didn't even care."

"That's not true."

"Yes it is! What about when she dropped me out of school or gave me all the responsibilities, did you try and stop her? No!"

"She wouldn't let me!"

"Bullshit!"

"She threatened to kick me out!"

"If you helped me? Do you seriously think I believed that?"

"She told me she wouldn't pay for college and she would drop me out of school like she did to you."

"So you cared more about yourself, see you're just like I thought."

"You act like I could've stopped her! You've always been the stronger one!"

"Either way, she hated everything about me and you never cared enough to help me!"

"Look I'm sorry I would take it back if I could."

"No you wouldn't. Nothing has changed, you're still the better child, the successful one, the one with everything figured out."

"That is not true! You are just as talented as I am!"

"If anything this conversation is making everything worse. THANKS SCOTT."

"After you left, Mom uhh changed." Slightly changing the subject.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, she no longer had you to boss around, so she took her anger out on me."

"No..." Mitch rolled up his sleeve and revealed a large, dark mark on his arm.

"One day, she got nearly black-out drunk and burned me, I... I left too."

"Oh my god."

"Look Miranda I'm sorry that I was too stupid to help you. I... I... wish I could go back and change it but I can't and I'm sorry. He looked up at me, and wrapped his arms around me. I started crying into his chest.

So it wasn't his fault. Mother threatened him and ended up hurting him as well. We were both victims.

Scott POV

Kirstie and I set up a camera in the guest room so we were watching the drama unfold. When Miranda started crying I instantly wanted to be there for her, but I pushed that feeling aside. "Should we let them out?" Kirstie asked.

"Unlock the door but let them come out on their own. I think they need to catch up awhile."

I can't believe Mitch never told us about his childhood...
