Engagement ring maybe haha
"Hey hun," Said Brooks as I got out of the car and he pulled me into a warm embrace.
I hummed in happiness, "Hey," I though back to the day he proposed. I was up for the weekend 6 months ago to help with a muster and the sun was setting and I just couldn't say no, not this time. I was ready to stay with him the rest of my life.We grabbed as many bags as we could before making our way to the house. We walked past my room and passed Brooks'. I dumped by bags and started to unpack, we had acquired Joes old master bed room, leaving three spare bedrooms.
I collapse onto the bed, it had taken me two days to get here after the 9 hour drive from Wagga and then my little detour, so after all that I was just a little tired. Brooks came over and placed a sweet kiss on my fore head, "I'll go and make some tea, you just stay and rest," he said with a small smile.
I just nodded returning the smile. When he left I started unpacking my stuff. When I finished I decided to walk around the house and see how much has changed. I walked into my old room and ran my hand down the wall and looked at all those posters and that bed. So many memories came back, the first time Brooks slept in my bed when I was 14, to the make overs that Hayley use to give me. I saw my old guitar sitting over in the corner. I hadn't played it in ages. So I went and picked it up and took it to my new room. The wood was all worn out and well used, I smiled at all the good times that I had had with.
I looked out side it was still light at 7:30, so I walked out through the kitchen and out the front door and to the stables. I found Denny and he winnied in excitement at seeing me, it had been a few months. He had good muscle definition kind of like he had been in work. I looked over at all the other stables, they were all empty apart from another blue roan stock horse. I gave Denny a good pat before going over to get a closer look at the roan. As I got closer she started to get fidgety. I extended my hand for her to sniff which she sniffed then relaxed a little bit, but I looked into the stable and saw her legs all covered in bandages and patches and pink disinfectant spray covered her coat.
I stroked her nose as Brooks came in the big door, "She likes you," he said staying at the door.
"What happened to her?" I asked looking him in the eye.
"I got her from the sales about a week ago, I saved her from the doggers. She seemed like a pretty good horse, and she was only a few hundred," he said, "she wont let anyone near her though, well that was until you came haha," he said raking his hand through his hair, "she was a welcome home present for you, I mean Denny is getting a little to old for competing and I though maybe you could train her up, if you wanted."
I ran over and gave him a hug, "thank you."
"Want some tea?" he asked ruffling my hair.
I lightly punched him in the shoulder and nodded, "Yep, but in the morning that horses needs her dressings changed."
"Haha ok, lets go eat."
The sun was setting sending beautiful shades of pinks and oranges through the sky as we ate dinner. It was so good to be home.
That night I slept like a log.I woke up the next morning and quickly pulled on a pair of old jeans before Brooks could see my scarred legs. I walked out leaving Brooks in bed and went to my ute to get my gear out to go patch up this horse.
I went in and patched her up before giving her an apple after her good behaviour. She was still a little not sure about me but I think she will come around. I then proceeded to clean out Denny's stall before putting him out into the pasture. I then put a halter on the roan mare and carefully led her out of the stall which she wasn't to keen on so it took me a little while. I then tied her up and clean out her stall and put her back in, which she did quite happily.
It was around 7 when I went back inside and found Brooks at the table with bacon, eggs, sausage and mushrooms on toast.
With a scoff I asked, "Where is mine?" and with a mouth full of food he pointed into the kitchen, "Yay your the best!" I said planting a kiss on his full cheeks and ran to get my plate. I came back in with my plate and sat down across from him.
"So whats on the agenda for today?" I asked as I dug into my food.
"Well nothing much but if you want we can bring in the the cows n calves and drench and mark those calves, but that isn't urgent," he said finishing up his food.
"Sounds good, we can get that out of the way cause I have to go out to that Vet clinic tomorrow morning," I said between mouth fulls."Ok then haha, we will go when you finish. But we will take the quads to do it cause we only have one horse in work and it will be quicker haha," he said as he got up to put his dishes in the sink.
I nodded and hoed into my food. I finished it quickly and went to grab my cap and Roper boots. By 7:30 we were on the bikes and heading out to the paddock. It was a quick muster of only 100 cows and calves.
We cut and tagged and drenched and recorded weights and by lunch we were done so we had all afternoon to do nothing. Well when I say nothing I mean I ride the fence lines and Brooks takes the ute and dogs out to check the troughs.
The day soon came to a close and I cooked tea while Brooks fed the 3 dogs. We had spaghetti bowl and then hit the hay by 9.
