Birdie scrunched herself against the vending machine, resisting her urge to bang against the glass as the chips slowly urged themselves out of their slot and into the bottom of the machine. It was taking so long. Honestly, it was 2019! Why was it taking so long for a vending machine to do its civic duty!? Had it always taken this long or was she going crazy? She sighed and picked up her chips (at least the stupid hospital hadn't run out of BBQ this time) before moving to curl into a bawl in the waiting room, tapping against the armrest of her chair and receiving scowls form the other visitors.

It didn't take long for Brynleigh to launch through the hospital doors, meeting Birdie's eyes and huffing, strutting toward her with that annoying aura of confidence. "Where's Bruce? What did you do to him?"

Birdie scowled "He's not Bruce! He's Badger, and I didn't do anything to him. The hospital won't let us see him yet and he just turned up at our door all bloody. For all we know, you probably did it". She probably hadn't, it had probably been Magnus or Flashcard or some other genetic superpower thing. She had tried to tell that to Cyrus and Holiday, but they ignored her and rushed Badger into the hospital before mom and dad got home.

"Birdie" one of the nurses called "Your brother said you can come in now". Brynleigh squawked but Birdie wasted no time, dashing by her and running into Badgers room.

"Birdie, I have to talk with mom and dad, watch Badger. Don't let anyone in" Cyrus instructed, phone to his ear as he walked out of the room, grabbing Brynleigh by the wrist and ignoring her protests as he dragged her away.

Birdie exhaled flopping onto a chair and resting her head on the side of the mattress. "Badger? Can you hear me? I know you're not in a coma or anything, they said you'd wake up soon, you're just sleeping or something. You probably don't remember me anyways. But- but, umm, this was where we first met. This hospital. Kinda funny, huh? Not really though" she paused."I know you have to remember us somehow. We really need your help, Badger. Holiday's all wacky and it's super cool but I don't want her to get hurt or anything..." Birdie blinked back tears. "And we miss you. I miss you. I haven't even talked to you more than a few times and I miss you". She stifled a sob and pressed her face against the mattress, crying harder at the sight of the cuts and stitches on Badgers body.

"Birdie" She jumped up, looking at Badger before realising the voice had come from behind her. She turned and crossed her arms, giving Brynleigh the stink eye.

"How did you get in, jerkface"

"Jesus, Bird, watch your language" Brynleigh spat sarcastically, before turning towards Badger and softening "The doctors let me in after I told them I was his sister"

"You are NOT his sister"

"And neither are you, so back off." Brynleigh pushed past Birdie and grabbed the empty chair, sitting in it. "Was- was what you were saying true? The stuff about Holiday and Bruce being able to help"

"It's none of your business"

"It is too, a broken and bloody "Badger" turned up at my doorstep two days ago and I plan to know a little more about him thank you very much"

Birdie paused, biting the inside of her cheek. "Weird... stuff has been happening with Holiday. It's- I can't tell you much more because I don't know if you're working for them- the people who did this to Badger- but it's not good. We don't know who to trust or where to find answers, and Badger was our only lead. And now..." she trails off with a sigh, eyes jolting open as Brynleigh squeaks, staring wide-eyed and rushing towards a now fully awake Badger, hugging him.

"Bruce? Are you okay? What happened?"

"Brynleigh?" Badger blinks, hugging her back. "Yeah, yeah, I feel fine. Everything kinda hurts, but I feel fine. And... I don't remember. All I remember is falling down and then waking up somewhere... and someone was yelling at me but I just ran away from them and... that's it". He blinks and squeaks, glaring at Birdie "Anders! What are you doing here?"

Birdie's about to defend herself, feeling hurt crawl up her spine, when Brynleigh speaks up. "Bruce, it's okay. She's... uh- she's a friend. Birdie, why don't you introduce yourself. Properly this time" Brynleigh stares down at her shoes almost shamefully and Birdie is left standing there like an idiot, shocked, before snapping herself out of it and making eye contact with Badger.

"He-Hey, Badg- Bruce. My name is Birdie Anders and I'm going to help you get your memories back"

A/N Hope you enjoyed! It was shorter than expected and not exactly your prompt but I tried my best and went for more of a drabble then a full fic :)
