Sandra's POV at 18 years old (in 2007)
"Wake up, Sandra. Time for school, wake up princess.", I heard a loud voice shouting at the top of her lungs.
With a groan, I peeked one eye open. wait, today is July twelve! It is my birthday, my 18th birthday. This meant that I was finally an adult.
"Happy Birthday, Sandra", I wished myself and giggled. "SANDRA. WAKE YOUR BUTT UP.", I heard my beautiful mother screaming as she banged my room door.
With a sigh, I quickly rolled off bed and opened the door.
"Seriously, ma. It's my birthday, must you wake me up so early?", I said and pouted. My mom shook her head as she pulled me into a hug.
"You still have school, Sandra. Happy 18th Birthday love. Go and get ready", she smiled and left. With elation in my heart, I excitedly prepared for school. I was thinking if my friends have any surprise for me.
I reached school in half an hour and quickly headed to my locker. The love of my life, Andrew and our best friend, Mariah, stood there, talking to one another. Andrew's hands were on her hips and Mariah was giggling loudly.
I was curious about what they were talking about. "Hi my two loves", I shouted happily as soon as I reached them.
Andrew quickly took his hands off her waist and nervously smiled at me. "H-hey babe", he said casually.
Mariah's eyes were looking at every direction but me, it was like she was deliberately avoiding my gaze. I couldn't understand what was wrong with the two of them. Why were they acting so weirdly?
I cocked an eyebrow at their peculiar behaviour and kissed Andrew in the cheek. "What's up with the two of you today? Cat got your tongues, huh?", I cheekily questioned them.
Mariah tightly smiled as she shook her head. "Ah, you know, nothing?", she rambled and Andrew kissed me in the lips all of a sudden. After a minute or so, he pulled back.
"Do you guys know what day is today?", I asked them, in a bid to remind these two idiots just in case they forgot.
"So, I guess...happy birthday babe", he finally wished me.
"It's your birthday, of course. How could we forget?Happy birthday my dear bestie", she said happily but I couldn't help but notice that something was still odd with the two of them.
Maybe I was wrong, but the two of them look a little guilty. A frown appeared on my face when I thought about the possible reasons for that, but I pushed it to the back of my mind.
Today, I just want to be happy, it was an important day after all. Even though, Andrew and Mariah seem to have forgotten about it if I did not hint them. Was something wrong with them and they were hiding it from me, in case they didn't want to worry me? I frowned at that thought.
"Ah guys, is something wrong with the two of you?", I hesitantly asked. I noticed Mariah's eyes widen a little and Andrew's face seemed unreadable as he shook his head way too fast. I was about to question them further but the bell rang.
My first lesson was English while the both of them had Math. I hurriedly left for my lesson, leaving the two of them behind. This was not the best start to this special day.
I expected some sort of gifts from them, but none were given, which I can accept. But what hurts is that both of them seemingly forgot about my birthday.
They were my boyfriend and best friend for whoever's sake! How can you forgot your signigicant other's birthday?
I shut my brain from thinking as I attempted to focus on the day's lessons. What made it a bit sweeter was that some of my other classmates remembered what day it was and I even got a few gifts and cards from here and there.
