“You know, I really loved to have visited their grave, maybe drop some fresh flowers or something.” Christian said breaking the silence.

We were both cuddled up next to each other on the bed watching a movie on his laptop that had just ended, our fourth movie in a row. It was nearly evening and I realized I spent the whole day here already.

“Why can’t you, I mean we could have gone, it won’t be longer than a four hours drive.” I turned to look at him.

He shook his head. “Mom made me promise that I won’t go.”

“Why?” I couldn’t help asking.

“We haven’t been there for a year now, she’s still traumatized from everything that happened there. The killers were arrested but she’s still kind of paranoid that something would go wrong.” He sighed.

“Ohhhh…”

“Besides, I don’t want to stress you out going on a trip that far.” He said.

“Just because you know now doesn’t mean you have to start acting like I’m some weak and fragile sick girl.” I narrowed my eyes at him.

He smiled at me. “I know, sorry. It’s going to take some time to get used to. I...how the hell didn’t I notice, I mean I knew you were hiding something but I really never expected it.”

I shrugged slightly. “I’m just really good at hiding it, I’ve always hated pity from people. When people heard I lost my parents and had cancer, they just instantly have that pity face. I get they’re trying to sympathize but…I don’t know…I just hate it.”

“Yeah, I understand. Been there so I know the feeling.”

The fifth movie had already started, I didn’t even know what movie it was because our eyes were on each other rather than the laptop.

“How did you know what today was though?” he asked.

“Ryan.” I replied and he rose his eyebrow clearly shocked. “I went to visit Izzy at the hospital and then I saw him, we talked, he even apologized.”

“Ryan apologized?” He asked his eyes widening a little bit making me laugh.

“Yeah, he did. Shocking right? So he told me.” I said. “I’m sorry Christian…I treated you like such a jerk without even realizing you were going through something as well.”

“Don’t apologize, I deserved It.” he said and took my hand in his. “Even with what I said and what I did, you still came. I didn’t know how I was going to survive this whole day, it’s been killing me for weeks and I was on the verge of losing my mind when you showed up at my door.

Today’s bearable because you’re here, I don’t think you realize how much you mean to me. I should be the one apologizing, not you. Ok?”

“Stop being so cheesy.” I teased but squeezed his hand lightly letting him know I understood. “And it’s the least I could do, after everything you did for me as well. So don’t sweat it.”

Taking my hand that he was holding, he raised it up to his lips planting a soft kiss on it. “Have I told you I loved you?”

“I don’t know, have you?” I joked.

“I love you.” He said bringing his face closer to mine, barely inches away. “I really do.”

I could feel my face burning up and my heart beating a little faster. “I l-love you too.”

Pulling my chin gently with his free hand, he closed the space between us locking his lips in mine. It was a gentle and warm kiss but enough to knock the breath out of me.

“I can’t hear you.” He teased pulling away, his face still dangerously close to mine.

Rolling my eyes playfully at him, I repeated it a lot louder and bolder. “I love you.”

He pulled in again about to kiss me when the door swung open and we both jumped in shock looking towards the door.

“Oops, did we interrupt something?” Aella asked looking guilty.

Behind her Jake was almost falling on the floor from laughter and Ryan looked…bored as usual.

“Yes you were.” Christian glared at his cousin who smiled sheepishly while I hit him on his chest.

“Don’t worry, I was just about to leave.” I said feeling slightly flustered as I got up nearly knocking Christian’s laptop in my haste.

“No way, you’re not going anywhere.” Aella said blocking my way through the door. “At least not before giving us an explanation.”

“What explanation?” I asked.

“Not only have you been avoiding Christian, you’ve been avoiding us.” She said. “I mean, yeah Christian deserves it but did we do something wrong too?”

“Thanks a lot.” Christian murmured but we both ignored him.

“I just…I mean with everything, you guys are Christian’s friends and I didn’t want things to be awkward because of me.” I replied.

“Kaylee, we’re your friends too not Christian’s.” she said. “And you wouldn’t have made things awkward, I would happily have glared and ignore Christian with you. It’s a girl thing.”

Ignoring Christian’s protest at the back, I smiled at her. “That means a lot, thank you.”

“Sorry you thought you had to go through all that alone, we’re here for you.” She said smiling back at me.

“Yeah, we are. Even this douche bag.” Jake said punching Ryan earning him a death glare immediately.

“Why are you guys here anyway? Just to hate on me?” Christian asked sending an accusing glance at Aella.

“Shut up, we came for you.” Aella said walking into the room.

“Until we saw you were busy.” Jake teased as everyone else walked in.

I groaned. “Can we please drop that?”

A teensy little smile played on my face as I let out a small sigh looking at the small scene playing out in front of me. Christian and I were back to normal, no more secrets and everything was fine. Plus, I had an amazing set of people to call my friends, even the extra grumpy one.

Yeah, everything would be just ok.
