CATACLYSM ☽☾ "KYBER CRYSTAL"
THE MOON known as Jedha was rather cold for it's very bright and desert like features. The way the sun collided with the grainy sand proved to be quite the illusion of warmth. For not even a cloud had been smudged into the bright blue sky. So when Amara walked off the ship expecting to be met with hot, suffocating, air she was rather surprised to be met with a gust of chilled wind.
Cassian and Jyn sat on either side of Amara on the ridge they had landed on. The ridge overlooked the walls of the Holy City from a few miles back and gave them easy visual access to what ships were flying in/out without actually being seen themselves. Amara watched the city before her like a hawk. Her legs had been extended out in front of her and her arms were propped up behind her back as she took in the sight ahead. Though thanks to the steel walls that extended great heights into the sky, the actual sight of the city was closed off from the outside world.
The Rebellion has been keeping watch on Jedha over the past month. They know didn't know a lot of the Empire's operation here but they knew enough, and well let's just say it wasn't good. The Alliance has concluded that for nearly three months, the Empire has been harvesting kyber crystals from an old Jedi Temple on the moon. But according to Saw Gerrera, it's been much longer. Inside sources have claimed the crystals to be used as the power source for a weapon, and if rumor holds true, it's planet killing kind of weapon.
"What's with the destroyer?" Jyn asked as she looked away from the city and over her shoulder to Cassian who was digging through his bag beside Amara.
"It's because of your old friend, Saw Gerrera." Cassian answered as he pulled out his electrobinoculars from the bag and held them up over his eyes to get a close up image of the ships. "He's been attacking the cargo shipments."
"What are they bringing in?" Jyn inquired as she looked back to the city.
Cassian lowered his electrobinoculars and handed them over to Jyn so she could have a look for herself. "It's what are they taking out." He corrected.
"They're collecting kyber crystal." Amara answered Jyn's question, taking her eyes off the city to look at the girl beside her who now held the electrobinoculars to her own eyes. "All they can get their slimy little hands on." Jyn slowly lowered the device from her eyes. "We've been keeping an eye on them, tried to figure out what they were stripping the temple for. Well, now we know."
"What are they using them for?" Jyn asked as she looked to Amara.
A grim look fell upon Amara's face as she looked back to the city. "It's the fuel for the weapon."
K2's voice flowed through the air as he finally caught up to the three. "The weapon your father's building." He remarked.
A tiny glare formed on Jyn's face as she turned to stare at the droid. "Maybe we should leave target practice behind." She suggested as she tossed the binoculars back to Cassian.
"Are you talking about me?" K2 demanded.
"She's right." Cassian said as he stuffed the binoculars back into his bag. "We need to blend in. Stay with the ship." He ordered.
"I can blend in." K2 argued. "I'm an Imperial droid. The city is under Imperial occupation."
"What you are is mouthy." Amara pointed out as she looked over her shoulder to the droid. "You'll blow our cover right away."
"I am not mouthy." K2 protested.
A smug smile tugged at Jyn's lips at the thought of knowing she'd finally be free of the droid. "Half the people here wanna reprogram you. The other half wanna put a hole in your head."
"I'm surprised you're so concerned with my safety." K2 shot as Jyn collected her things and stood up from the rocky ground.
"I'm not." She reassured as she walked over to him. "I'm just worried they might miss you and hit me." And with that Jyn shoved her bag into K2's hands and walked off.
"Doesn't sound so bad to me." K2 muttered before dropping Jyn's bag. Amara held back the urge to roll her eyes at her cybernetic friend. He could prove to be quite a pain sometimes, but in the end, Amara would prefer it no other way.
Getting up off the ground always proved to be a task for Amara. It wasn't hard but it required much more effort than it needed to. She moved to turn herself onto her side so her hands could brace her as she pushed herself up with her good leg. But before Amara could even try to get up on her own, a pair of hands gripped tightly along her waist. Panic was quick to spike through her veins and if it hadn't been for the small patch of brown hair that she had managed to catch in the corner of her eye, she was sure she would have attacked. And while knowing who it was behind her did ease her nerves, it also sent a new feeling to course through her. A feeling of helplessness.
"What are you doing?" She questioned, her voice holding a stern tone.
Cassian let out a huff of air before using his strength to pull Amara up in one fluid motion. "I'm helping you up."
"I don't need help standing up." Amari spat, her eyes holding a thousand flames as she turned to stare at him. "I'm not a child." She hated it when people treated her like a broken doll, she hated when people tried to help her with things, and she especially hated it when she had to ask for help to do the simple things that she was once able to do on a daily basis. It made her feel weak and she hated feeling weak. "Don't do that again."
A look of confusion formed on Cassian's face as he stared down at her. "I was just helping..."
Amara cut him off, anger present within her words. "I don't need your help." Cassian watched her walk by him. A frown was quick to form on his face as he watched her limp with nearly every step. "I don't need anyone's help."
"Way to go." K2 said as he turned away from Amara's retreating figure to face Cassian.
A heavy sigh fell past Cassian's lips as he looked to his droid. "Just watch the ship." He told him before walking away to join the other two. "We'll radio if we need you."
