"Seriously Matthew are you being that stupid? We have a our first major project due next Monday and you want to do what this weekend? Have you even started your project?"

I had been told I could stay home but I already missed yesterday for the funeral and I really needed to get back into my routine. I needed to be back with my friends and keep moving forward. He was gone but that doesn't mean everyone was gone, the world was still turning and I still had AP English.

"First of all I don't appreciate being called stupid and second yes I have started, thank you very much. Just because I want to actually have fun this weekend doesn't mean I don't care about this project. I have to make all A's and B's or my parents won't let me play football. I HAVE TO PLAY FOOTBALL!" Matthew said as we sat at our lunch table waiting for the girls to get here.

Matthew is the kid who's parents don't let him do anything social if his grades aren't good. Both his parents went to Harvard and his older sister was valedictorian the year she graduated, so his parents have pretty high expectations for him. Matthew isn't a dumb kid, he is actually really smart but he is so lazy. His laziness is one of the reasons I am so surprised that he has actually started his project.

"Okay so if you know how important this project is why do you want to go to Jenna's party instead of finishing your project?" I said taking a bite of my sandwich.

"Because Jenna's really hot and anyone who's anyone is gonna be at her party. Thomas would have gone." He said as my one of my best friends, Danae sat down next to me. For a split second his comment made his eyes cloud over but once Danae sat down he was better. She didn't like to talk about Thomas, her dad had past away from cancer two years ago so the situation really upset her.

"What are my favorite people talking about today? Is it the fact that I have a date with Shawn Cameron on Friday night or that I am so the most fashionable girl here?" She said flipping her hair back all flirty like you see in the movies. Danae has naturally curly blond hair that stops just above her hips and ocean blue eyes. If Barbie was real, Danae would be her daughter.

"Actually neither, Matt was just telling me about the stupid party he wants to go to this weekend when he has his project due on Monday. Wait, you have a date with Shawn? When the hell did that happen??? Details!"

"Well..."

"What's up beautiful? Is this seat taken?" A deep voice said from behind me. Kyle Henderson round 2.

"What are you doing? Isn't you table over there?" I ask pointing to the table full of basketball jocks. "Hasn't that been your table since freshman year?" I ask rolling my eyes. He snickered before sitting down next to me.

"I figured it was time for a change." He said grabbing his apple and taking a bite. "Plus with my cousin being dead and all my friends don't really know how to talk to me."

"God you literally have no filter, do you?" Danae snapped.

"Well... Umm... Pretty girls make me nervous." He replied batting his long eyelashes. "Lighten up Danae, you know I say stupid things when I'm uncomfortable." Kyle said flashing his signature Prince Charming smile. Freshman year Kyle and Danae had a thing. I'm not even sure you could call it that. They texted, went on a few dates but nothing really came of that. She was a fashionista and he was a basketball player, star crossed lovers, tale as old as time.

"Hey can't blame him for trying. You know with the whole 'pretty girls' thing." Matt said before stuffing his face with french fries. What a charmer!

"Matthew has anyone every told you, you eat like a cow?" Danae asked handing him a napkin. Danae has grown up with three older brothers but they are all sophisticated because their mom put them in some weird classes when they were younger. Danae is the same way. If you aren't gonna eat like a normal human being then don't eat at all. Sweet, I know.

"Has anyone every told you, you're bossy?" He replied taking the napkin. Here we go again. Matt says things without really thinking them over. For example challenging Danae, not one of his smarter ideas.

"Haha very funny, not! Matthew you are a real jack..."

"Okay... And on that note I will see you guys around." Kyle said picking up his lunch and getting up from our table. I turned to watch him walk away only to make eye contact with Ronnie. She gave me a small smile before completely passing up our table and sitting by herself on the opposite side of the commons. Her blond hair was in a cheerleader high pony tail, her face was paler then usually and she didn't have any food with her. Veronica wasn't the type to let people see her down but how are you supposed to look after your boyfriend dies? Are you supposed to wear your usual red lick stick and black pumps with your wavy hair falling down your back as if nothing had changed? Are you supposed to keep on going as if he had never existed in the first place? She was taking the whole situation a lot better than I had expected but she had also cut me off completely. I could be the fact that Thomas and I were best friends or maybe the fact that I was completely in love with him. I haven't decided which is the real reason for her suddenly cutting me off but I was hoping it didn't have anything to do with the unopened letter from Thomas in my binder between my Spanish homework and my creative writing assignment.
