When (L/n) had gotten home last night she had thrown herself onto the couch and waited for her father to come home. When he did his breath smelled of strong liquor and his tie was wildly undone, and three of his shirt buttons were uncliped. He sent her a warm, drunken smile and gave a small wave. "Whatcha doing down here?" He had asked her, as she had normally locked herself in her room on most days and only come down to get food, like a raccoon.

When she looked at him with such sorrow filled eyes he had dropped his smile within an instant.

"What? What is it?" He had asked her, dropping himself into the couch beside her, suddenly feeling ten times more sober.

She was quiet for a moment before speaking. "I got an offer for Standford today. A full ride scholorship." She had said sourly, as if it had been a curse rather than a blessing. Her father jumped up from the couch, nearly tipping over in the process, and let out an out cheering noise.

"That's amazing! I knew my babygirl was a smart one! I knew it!" He cheered, his eyes brimming with happy tears. "Your mother would be so proud of you!" He held back a heart wrenching sob.

(L/n) smiled up at her father, feeling tears well up in her eyes as well, but for the first time today, they were happy tears. She stood from the couch and wrapped her arm around her father, ignoring the sickening smell of alcohol that seemed to constantly coat his skin. "I am so proud of you." He sobbed onto the top of her hair, using his hand to push the back of her head into his chest as a form of comfort.

Although her father was always drunk, nearly never on time to anything, and had forgotten what age she was on multiple occasions, she still thought of him as a good dad. He always cared for her and he always did what he could to protect her, even though he was kind of a piece of crap.

When her joyous hiccups turned into heart wrecking painful sobs, her dad pulled her back with a confused face and looked at her distraught face. "What?" He panicked, truly afraid that he had done something wrong.

(L/n) couldn't even form a sentence to explain herself, she gasped for air but every time it turn into another pained wail.

"What? What is it?" Her father voice out, it came out soft and sad.

"I-" She gasped for air again between her sobs. "I have to move to America!" She cried out, wheezing and choking on her own breath. Her father was beyond confused but still rubbed her back in soothing circles so she could calm down and explain her words.

"For the scholarship. If I want to go to Standford I need to move to America within two months." She breathed out, her fathers shoulders slouched at her words. "To America? In two months?" He had asked her, earning another gut wrenching sob from his daughter.

"It's okay. I have some money saved up and we can move, we can do this." He assured, when in reality he didn't have any money. He wasn't sure if they could actually do this. But he was the father, he had to be there for her. He had to be her protection.

"No! I don't want to, we have to stay!" She cried out, her throat becoming scratchy because this was the first time she had cried this hard in a long while.

"We can! I'm so proud of you, I want to make this work-"

"But I like him! I can't leave him!" She sobbed even harder. Her father stared at (L/n) for a long moment, trying to figure out what the proper response was.

"Like who?"

She only responded with more tears and choked breaths.

"Like who, (L/n)?" Her father repeated, he was a bit shaken by her sudden outburst. (L/n) had never spoken to her father about boys.

Her breaths were Turing to wheezes and her sobs where becoming silent and pained.

"I like Aone!"
