"You, boy! You shall not go unpunished! For killing the Captain of this ship, you shall walk the plank at the crack of dawn and have all your friends watch," Terrance declared, pointing at Jasper.

"What! But you were the one who shot him!" Jasper argued.

"A man kill someone he sees as a son? Are you delusional? You two, bring the rest of the prisoners back into the ship," Terrance commanded Bill and Chris.

The two men brought all of the captives who were in the dinghy back onto the Air Mando.

While all of this was happening, Meg observed the late Captain Modi, his final words ringing in her head. Suddenly, she found an old, wrinkled, blood-stained piece of paper in the pocket of his jacket. Meg unfolded it and read the note to herself. She was shocked to see that it was written in her mother's handwriting.

"My Dear Dominic,

I can't believe that you're finally going to come home! It's been so long, and I thought I would never see you again. Anyway, I am writing this letter to let you know that I accept your proposal. I don't care if you're rich or poor. I simply can't wait for you to return.

Lots of love,

Bella"

She then hid the note in the back of her dress as the window was sealed shut once again, and Bill brought the body of Captain Modi out of the room. The door was closed and locked once again. She sat in the corner and thought some more to herself as the rest of the group talked.

"Man, we were so close," Charles pouted.

"At least they aren't planning on executing you at dawn tomorrow," Jasper pointed out.

"Meg, are you alright?" Annie asked as she joined her cousin in the corner of the room.

Meg said nothing and instead handed Annie the note she had found.

"What is it?" Annie questioned after reading the letter.

"It's a letter from my mother to my father that was in Captain Modi's pocket. I now believe that Captain Modi killed my father at sea because he was also in love with my mother," Meg answered, considering the sea captain's dying words.

"I'm so sorry, Meg," Annie said before pulling her cousin in for a hug.

"What makes it worse is that the promise I made that Jasper would not be harmed before the voyage ends will be broken, and he will die tomorrow."
