NOTORIOUS

CHAPTER: 9

I can see the pure rage burning in his eyes. I try hard to stand on my weight, his muscular body overpowering my own. He keeps throwing words of hatred at my face while I shudder under his harsh glare and keep turning to look back at the lake that's approaching. My breathing is rapid as I look at his face, practically begging him to stop but nothing seems to affect him.

"You know how to be afraid huh?" Harry mocks me with a smile. "What are you afraid of?" He takes another small step and I lean back, whimpering under his deathly glare. 

"Afraid to fall in the water or afraid to die?" he says with a malicious smile on his face and just then I lose my balance, a loud scream escaping my quivering lips. But before I can fall he grabs me from my arm, his hands cold and grip tight.

"You don't know anything. You don't understand." I say in between my heavy breaths, holding his hand.

"Right now you're feeling just what Laura was feeling when your headlights were flashing in her eyes. The moment of fear, life, and death." He lowers his voice, pain evident in his tone. I feel warm tears rushing down my cheeks, my gaze fixed between Harry and the lake behind me.

"Mr. Styles. Please." I beg again. "You offered us your money, right? Then let's see if your money can save you from your death." I look at him anxiously, with sheer horror.

And that's when he lets go of my hands that hold his, and I scream at the top of my lungs. Harry smiles, watching me fall.

The water hits my body leaving me begging for air. I keep flapping my arms to keep myself from drowning. I break to the surface and gulp for the air and then with barely a splash I go under the water again.

"How is it, is near-death experience frightening? This is how watching someone about to die feels like?" I hear him say while I struggle to keep myself up at the surface and then I watch him leave me all alone begging for life. "Go! Go! Help!" I hear an unknown voice after a few minutes. And then somebody jumps into the water to save me. 

"Hurry! Got her, get a towel!" a male voice says while lifting me up towards the dock. I keep coughing trying to breathe hard. "Relax." A woman says holding me. My eyes meet Harry's and he smirks before leaving.

"How did you fall in the water? Normally you stay far away from water? And you fell in like this and instead of screaming for help... Nothing?" Charlie rants about the horrible incident when I step down the stairs putting my hair up in a ponytail after changing my clothes. "Hey! I know you are strong but be strong in the right place and time! What if you had drowned?!" he says following me while I practically ignore him and pick up my purse from the table and leave. "Hey, Jade! Where are you going!?" Charlie follows me outside the door. 

"I'm going to clear it with Danny," I tell him in hurry.

"Hey!" He raises his voice behind me while I walk to leave.

I rush towards my car, throw my bag inside, and start the engine. I'm so mad at Danny right now. I did not expect him to do this. I thought he was more considerate than that. I pull the car out on the road and dial Danny's number. "Danny, tell me the truth, did my mother tell you to offer money to Laura's mother?" I ask Danny on the phone while driving.
