Some people say that Halloween is a magical night full of surprises, and they are partly true. Sapphire's breath hitched in her throat as she watched Severus approach James with an evil glint in his black eyes. With trembling hands, she saw the dark-haired Slytherin took out the parchment from his pocket and handed it to James, who looked like a ghost just ran through him Her heart dropped to her stomach when she realized what the parchment was about, and from the heartbroken look on James' face, she knew exactly what it was. Sapphire set her drink down abruptly and was about to dash towards James before something bad happened, but she was stopped when a hand enveloped her upper arm, bringing her closer to the body of the one and only Remus Lupin.

"Sapphire...wazup?'' Remus stretched the last word, slurring over the small sentence as his hands gripped Sapphire's small waist. His normally bright hazel eyes were glazed over with alcohol and he reeked of it. "Did I ever--ever tell you that you are slowly beating my score in Transfiguration? Because, dammit you are. "

"That's nice," Sapphire mumbled, trying to push Remus away from her, but he was holding on too tightly. "Let me go Lupin. "

"Wait, I have to tell you something," Remus took a deep, agonizingly slow breath, a smirk etching on his face before he exhaled. "Okay, did Jamesy tell you that super funny story about our bet?"

"What bet?" Sapphire felt her cheeks turning red, and she held onto Remus ' wrists so he wouldn't topple over her. The sandy-haired boy erupted into fits of giggles and refused to answer. "What fucking bet are you talking about Lupin? Answer me, or I swear I will castrate you in your sleep."

"Merlin, woman, calm down. The bet, the one where Jamesy makes kissy faces with you to make Lily angry. you silly goose!" Sapphire's hold on Remus ' wrists tightened as the last syllable left his mouth, her heart clenching in its cage. Tears of anger threatening to roll down her cheeks.

"What?"

"Oh my- where James has to pretend to like you so Evans would be jealous!" Remus yelled out.

It was as if all the music and background conversations were muted in Sapphire's brain, the only things she heard were Remus ' words echoing in the back of her head. It was all fake? She let go of the drunken bay's wrists and dashed to the other side of the room, where James was leaning against the wall with the parchment in his hands. Severus is long gone by now. Wordlessly, Sapphire grabbed his arm and dragged him out of the Great Hall ignoring all his yells and insults. She slammed him against the wall and shot arrows into his skull.

"What is wrong with you?" James yelled, his voice barely heard over the loud music coming from the Ball.

"What's wrong with me? You want to know what's bloody wrong with me, Potter. It's the fact that you played me for the last God- knows- how- many months to make Lily jealous? Does that ring a bell to you?" She watched with anger evident on her face as James ' eyes widened dramatically and he gaped at her. "What you didn't think I'd ever find out? You thought you could just keep it from me like it was nothing? You used me! You bloody used me to get my cousin, you good-for-nothing self-centered bastard!" With a finger pointed to his chest. Sapphire took a deep breath before continuing the look on James ' face would've been comical if the knife of betrayal wasn't buried in her heart. "What is wrong with you? You really thought that Lily would go out with you, no matter how much she 'loves you' after you went out and broke up with her cousin. What kind of monster--"

"You hypocrite." Sapphire shut up, feeling her heartbreak at James' icy tone and glare. He advanced towards her until she found herself backed up against the wall, her heart beating at a thousand kilometers a second. "You fucking hypocrite. You are the last person on the bloody planet to be calling me a monster. Operation Potter? What got you bored of your itty bitty pranks on the students so you decided to make a deal with the Slimy Snake of Slytherin against me? What had I ever done to you?"

"You bullied my friend!" Sapphire found the courage to speak again, her hands flat against James' chest as pushed him away from her. "You made Severus' life a living hell, James. You went after my cousin for years on no end, seeing that you were tearing her away from the only boy who truly loves her just so you can be satisfied. "

"I love Lily!" Sapphire and James froze on their spot, neither one of them able to utter a word after James' declaration.

"You love me?" With wide eyes and a wildly beating hard, James turned around to see Lily Evans standing at the entrance of the Great Hall in the sluttiest dress he had ever seen Her arms were wrapped around her, trying to warm her up James barely noticed his glasses falling off his nose and hitting the ground, he was too busy trying to come up with a logical explanation. But Sapphire beat him to it.

"No, he doesn't. Lily, he doesn't! He had a small crush on you and he liked the thrill of the chase isn't that right, James? James, you only liked Lily because she rejected you and no one had done that before. That is it! There are no other additional feelings." With a deep breath. Sapphire watched James ' expression change from anger to relief and back to anger in a matter of five seconds.

"Fine, maybe what you're saying is true. But you still had no right to mess with my personal feelings." And like a flick of a switch, they were back at it Sapphire pressed against the wall with James ' face only centimeters away from her, heavily breathing against her.

"What the fuck--James, there were no personal feelings, you were using me to get to Lily! "

"Really, then why the hell do I feel like my heart will explode every time you're near me?" Yet again for the second time that night, Sapphire was breathless and had no words to say, "Why do I feel like heaven is right around the corner every time our hands brush accidentally? Why do I feel like pushing my body against yours and keeping you safe in my arms forever every second of every day? Explain to me how that is considered in the ' no personal feelings category?"

Letting out a much-needed breath, Sapphire grabbed James ' face and put her lips on his, not caring of the consequences she just needed to feel his lips on hers. He froze against her but then his arms enveloped her waist and he pulled her closer, one hand flying up to play with her hair. Their tongues fought together in a passionate battle, her hands leaving his cold cheeks to play with his slightly- damp hair, tugging and curling them around her finger. James ' hands slid down until they were over her bum, pulling her up so she could wrap her legs around his torso. Lips leaving each other, Sapphire craned her neck so James would have better access. His warm tongue swiped over her skin, sending a shiver up and down her spine. He nibbled her neck, plump lips against the burning skin making a small moan leave her. Sapphire could feel his smirk against the crook of her neck as he continued to nibble and lick and kiss his way down to her collarbones.

Sapphire unwrapped her legs from around James and slid to the floor. James peppered butterfly kisses around her face making her giggle and squirm around in his embrace. With one last butterfly kiss on her nose, James leaned his forehead on hers and let out a breath. His lips were red and slightly swollen from their make-out session, resulting in Sapphire biting her lower lip at him; his brown hair messy and tangled, hazel eyes shining with passion.

"You look so fucking hot," James murmured, brushing their lips slightly before biting down on Sapphire's lower lip, holding it caged between his, sucking on it. When he finished winking at her, his head returned back to her neck.

"I'm still mad at you," Sapphire said, in between moans.

"I'm still mad at you, too, but you're going to thank me after this."

Without any more unnecessary waiting, James grabbed her hand and dragged her away to the Gryffindor Common Room, his hands going under her knees and lifting her up bridal style. The Fat Lady looked at them with an unimpressed look but opened the portrait when James said the password. Giggling all the way up to their dorm, James fumbled to push the door open before throwing Sapphire on the bed. He climbed up, elbows resting on each side of her, an adorable grin adorning his face.

"Still mad?" he asked, his lips against her cheeks softly, making their way to her soft lips.

"So mad."
