Lunch was a hell hole that was filled with hormonal teenagers left and right. Nothing out of the ordinary occurred. It was just the usual high school lunch containing flying food, screaming, and face sucking. As I said earlier, nothing unusual. I sat with a friend I made in Mr. Smith's class, Kate. I recognized her from my old middle school and thankfully she did not recognize me and my new appearance.

At least she wasn't one of the mean bitçhes.

When lunch finished, hordes of students began to race to their 7th periods. Due to the already exhausting day, I left the cafeteria without my 'kind and lovely' escort (not that he would mind). As I heard the 1 minute warning bell ring, I turned a corner and raced to my next class, trying to get there before the bell rang. I felt my hair whip back and forth, undoubtedly becoming very messy. I reached my destination and yanked open the door and sat down in a random seat.

Phew, made it just in time.

As I began unpacking my stuff, I became aware of my surroundings and I concluded that I was not in the right class.

Crap, crap, crap, CRAPPP!

"Miss, what are you doing here? This is History for juniors." The gray haired lady asked kindly.

I grimace and closed my eyes as I felt everyone's eyes on me. "Wrong class, sorry ma'am." I scratched the back of my head nervously.

"Oh you must be a new freshman! Welcome!" The teacher said excitedly.

"No, well, actually---"

"I'll get one of the lovely juniors to escort you to your class, alright? Don't be scared, freshman year is not as bad as you think and you'll meet a lot of great teachers and great students and you'll definitely missed it when you leave for college which is probably something you don't want to take lightly cause there are scholarship and resumes that you need to worry about which reminds me of my freshman year, not at high school of course but at college, golly it was..."

I stared at her, my former sentence forgotten. How long can this women talk so much? Has she breathed yet? I think I should dial 911 just in case she forgets to breathe...

"Mrs. Inkle? I'll take her."

I whipped my head to the savior with the deep, masculine voice.

"..to have you as my own student is pretty exciting too and--- oh! will you really, Derek? Thanks so much! Good bye freshmeat! Oops, I mean freshman." She let out a hearty laugh. "My jokes are always so funny."

I stared at her with my mouth a gape. She has to be joking.

"Come on," the guy whispered. "Let's get out of here."

I complied and allowed him to grab my hand and lead me out the classroom into the hallways.

"Oh my gosh. Bless your soul, heart, body, face, just everything." I said to Derek once we were out in the hallways. "That lady sure knows how to talk. Wow."

"Just imagine her talking about History, now that's pain." Derek laughed and raked his hand through his dark hair.

I watched as his eyes studied mine. There was a short moment of silence before he said, "You're not a freshman."

"What?" I said caught off guard.

"You aren't a freshman."

"Well no, I'm not," I smiled. "Wait was that even a question? How'd you know?"

He paused and looked at me seriously before replying. "I just do." He quickly lost his serious face and chuckled and patted my back. "I guess it's hard for you, since you don't know anyone in your grade." Derek stared straight in my eyes.

Quite on the contrary.

I hesitated before answering. "It's not that bad," I said, averting my eyes away from his. "The people are nice here."

"Are you sure?"

I looked at him and didn't answer. It's not possible that he knows. He's not even in my grade. I changed the subject quickly, "So care to lead me to Mr. Bronziknoker? I'm sure you'll be better at it than me."

He studied my face and then smiled. "Let's go!" He grabbed my hand once again and guided me to my class, which happened to be 2 doors away. Call me stupid or whatever.

"Well this is awkward," I said laughing. "I was so close to getting there by myself. Sorry for wasting your time"

"Hey, don't worry about it. I get to get out of Mrs. Inkle's class and," He paused and smiled. "I get to walk with a cute girl and I'm hoping to get her number." He tousled his hair before handing his phone to me.

I grinned and typed in my number. "I suppose I'll be receiving a text from a cute boy tonight."

"Aren't you just one lucky girl?"

I laughed and said, "Just take the phone." I handed back his phone and he reached out to take it but grabbed my arm instead, bringing his face closer to mine. I shivered as I felt his lips move next to my left ear.

Pull yourself together, Evangelyn. Now is not the time to get distracted by some cute junior.

"I know who you are, Evangelyn." He paused , moving his lips closer to my ear so that his lips brushed against it. "Or should I just call you Lyn?"
