"How you so skinny and fit? Ugh, I wish I could be you!"

I smiled tightly at my friend, Maddie, who had no clue of my past. Right now, we were at my house getting ready for Nathaniel's party. Maddie had brought over numerous dresses from her closet and we were currently trying them on to find a dress to wear and to pass time.

"I think I'm going to wear this one." Maddie walked out of my closest. She was dressed in a tight, long sleeved dress. It was black and worked very well with her slightly tanner skin complexion. The length of the dress stopped midthigh and by the looks of it, it really accented her curves. (picture is attached)

"Yes! I love it!" I walked to her and motioned her to spin in a circle. "You are going to get all the guys tonight."

She giggled and made her way to my makeup set. "Yeah, but I'll leave your special guy to you though." She winked and opened the set.

My heart jumped. How does she know I have a stupid crush on Derek?

"What do you mean?" I played stupid. "I have a special guy?"

"Oh please," She said as she started to inspect her face in the mirror. "Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about." She turned to face me and grinned. "Nathaniel obviously has the hots for you!"

"But--but, what?!" I spluttered. My heart rate slowed again, feeling safe that she didn't know about my 'thing' with Derek, if you can even call it a thing.

"He likes you" she said exasperatedly. She turns back to the mirror and began to apply her makeup.

"Ohhh, him." I maintained my excitement after finding out that my revenge on him could actually work. "If anything, I'm beginning to think that Clay likes me."

"Nah, that's just Clay being his typical self." She began to put on her mascara. "Anyway, what dress are yo--AW FUÇK! DANG NABBIT!" She groaned at her failure. Her hand must've slipped because her left eyelid had a dark mark on it (ooh Harry Potter, sorry I had to).

"It's always my left eye." She began to dab at it with a tissue, trying to get it off.

I laughed at her as I continued flipping through the dresses that piled on my bed.

"Hey, what do you think of this one?" I raised up a strapless light blue dress. The top of the dress was outlined with silver sequins and the bottom flared out and ended a little past mid-thigh. (picture attached)

"I can already tell I'm going to like it." She smiled mischievously. "You know who else will like it?" She said suggestively, wiggling her eyebrows. I tried not to crack up laughing because one eyebrow was outlined and the other was not.

"Oh stop with the Nathaniel thing." I said before entering the closet.

"I'm just saying, you two'd be a such a cute couple!"

I blanched at the thought of being a "cute couple".

"Okay, Maddie. Whatever makes you happy."

I slipped on the dress and then walked out the closet. "What'd you think?"

She squealed and ran towards me to admire my light blue dress. "Please let me do your hair and makeup!"

I rolled my eyes and grinned at her. "Yes, please."

"Oh my stars and moons and suns and all the dang freaking Earth." Maddie stared at Nathaniel's house in shock which was big, and not to mention filled with many teenagers. Hormonal teenagers. "I didn't realized Nathaniel knew this many people..." She splutter and gestured wildly with her hands. "I mean I've only been in this town for a year so I've only known him for a year, but this is crazy."
