"Oh, seriously? Right now?" grumbled Naib.

He groaned with exasperation, trying to turn on the LED fairy lights decorated around the tree. The gigantic Christmas tree Jack and Naib bought together stood proudly next to the stairwell of their two storey house. It had everything – from the star to the ornaments, to the mistletoe, to the presents under the glorious tree, to the... Christmas lights. Right. The lights swivelled around the gigantic pine tree that just won't glow! His family - as well as Jack's - were coming really soon for dinner and the tree must work!

Naib tried to connect the plugs to the socket again and again, and also switching it on and off. It must work, right? Wrong. It didn't. He tried everything in his might, but nothing seems to work. He sighed and sat down on the floor, staring at the beautiful but lightless tree sadly.

Right when he thought all hope was lost, he felt a gentle rub from behind, He looked up and there was his dear boyfriend, Jack, looking down at him with his warm hazel* eyes.

"What's wrong, dear?" Jack asked him as he lifted the man up back to his feet, and later kissed his cheek.

"It's the lights... They won't glow!" exclaimed an agitated Naib. "I tried everything... But nothing seems to work, at all!"

"Now, now, Naib," Jack consoled him, patting his back. "I'll see what the problem really is, alright?"

Naib just nodded slowly and they went to the Christmas tree. Jack examined the wires and after a while, chuckled in amusement. He showed Naib another on and off switch that controls the wires and flicked the switch. Just then, the Christmas tree lit up with blue, green, red and yellow lights!

"Wow, Jack," Naib said as he hugged his partner tightly. "You're a real lifesaver!"

Jack laughed at the compliment and lifted Naib's chin up. They stood there, looking at each other's sparkling eyes full of love for each other. Jack then bent down to reach the man's height to kiss his lips softly. They swayed, dancing to the jazzy Christmas song playing from their radio. They smiled at each other, not forgetting to kiss each other every once in a while.

A few moments later, the doorbell rang – their families finally arrived! They quickly ran to open the door and welcomed them in for dinner.
