Y/N L/N was known on the Rebel base of Yavin4 as one of the smartest intelligence officers alive, her strategising was top-notch and her piloting skills were beyond what anyone had ever seen. She was regarded as the best pilot in the Rebellion, some even said she was the best pilot in the whole damned galaxy. Yet the thing that stood out the most, despite the ability to make incredibly hard calls and a being a great Commander to her X-Wing squadron, Y/N was notoriously shy.
The only person she hung out with was the second shyest person on the base, Bodhi, who truth be told, could rival her for the first place. Apart from mission briefings or when she was in fight mode giving out orders, if anyone tried to strike up a conversation with the Y/H/C eyed beauty, her face would furiously blush and she'd just give a quick answer before scurrying away.
Whenever she got the chance to properly eat in the cantina Y/N either always sat alone, nose buried in her holo-pad or found Bodhi, which usually included everyone else from the Rogue One team.
The first time she hadn't seen Bodhi sitting alone, but with his friends, their eyes had met and she quickly found an empty seat at the end of the hall. It took the dark-skinned man a good couple of weeks to convince that everyone else would not mind her sitting with them and that they'd actually be glad if she joined, of course, if Y/N felt comfortable with that.
She had been sent out on a week-long mission after their conversation, but when the girl had gotten back, with a deep breath, she sat opposite Bodhi right next to Chirrut, who gave her an encouraging smile, before letting Bodhi introduce everyone.
Ever since that first time three months ago she always ate with the Rogue One, yet barely spoke, mostly because she had gotten infatuated with the Captain. The gaze of his brown eyes always looking at her, almost evaluating if she was good enough to be sitting next to them was so intense, Y/N wanted to crawl under the table, turn into an ant and dig herself into the ground never to be seen again.

And it seemed like Bodhi had caught up to that. He noticed how Y/N's stance went rigid when Cassian showed up to the table, let alone sat down beside or in front of her. She would immediately fixate her gaze on the holo and not look up, not until all of them had left and Bodhi had to give a light squeeze to her shoulder, signalling it was all good.
He never made fun of her. He better than anyone probably knew how it was to be so shy language escaped his mind, but Maker did his heart swell at the thought of his two friends getting together because little did Y/N know, that the Captain Cassian Andor had a major crush on the fellow rebel girl.
At first, it had started out with a few questions about the quiet woman but then it turned into full on grilling. "What is her favourite colour?" "Does she like asyrs or does she prefer Ithorian roses?" "What is that second colour that glints in her eye when the light falls exactly like that?" But most importantly "does she have a boyfriend" and "does she even like guys." Bodhi had no answer to the last question so Jyn, the self-proclaimed "best matchmaker of the Rebellion", stood up to the challenge... only to be greeted by a hundred meter thick stone wall.
She had tried to get Y/N to talk to her, had kept the girl company while she fixed her X-Wing or filed some papers, but she only gave Jyn a quiet "hello" when the woman entered wherever Y/N was and a "goodbye" when leaving. One night she had gotten so frustrated with the whole thing she told Cassian and Bodhi that she'd rather go to Scarif ten more times to get the Death Star plans because it would be easier than getting through the girl.
Cassian felt hopeless because to him it seemed like Y/N hated his guts, even though Bodhi tried to convince him, she was just incredibly shy. The Captain himself had tried to strike up some conversation before on his own, but it seemed like the girl shrunk into herself even more, so he just wished her a good day and went on to do his own thing.
He was just about to go out and say to Y/N that he's in love and would like to take her on a date when Mon Mothma called him and the rest of his team, dead in the night to say that they had a mission assigned. And Y/N would take part.
Cassian was over the moon of the chance to spend time with the girl, and given the fact it was expected for the mission to take at least a day, she wouldn't have any chance but to communicate with him.
Rogue One was already putting supplies in the U-Wing when Y/N rushed into the empty hangar, pulling the zipper to her combat boots closed.
"Sorry, I'm late," she huffed trying to tame some loose strands of hair that just didn't want to stay in place, "something went wrong with my holo and I only just now received the message."
"It's quite all right, Commander," Mon Mothma assured the girl, "given the fact that you are incredibly detail orientated I assumed that something must have happened. I can get the technical and switch the pad if-"
"It's fine," she interrupted Mothma but realising her mistake quickly apologised. "I umm, I already fixed it. Opened it up while running here and saw a loose wire. Should work just like it did before."
The woman smiled at Y/N and told her what she'd missed, which was not much, as all information necessary would be given to them once on the ship and then once they'd enter the planetary orbit.
"Understood," Y/N nodded and made her way up the ship's ramp. Her back was straight and her posture full of confidence as the girl switched into Commander mode, but when she felt all eyes staring at her, she instinctively looked at the ground.
Cassian's presence behind made her jump as he placed a hand on Y/N's shoulder. "Sorry," he apologised and removed the palm, pocketing both hands in his parka, "if our calculations are right we should be arriving at our destination in three hours."
Y/N cleared her throat and put a stray piece of hair behind her ear before looking up at the Captain and taking a deep breath. "And where exactly are we being sent?"
"Dantooine," the man led her to the control panel. "The base received a disturbance call from a fellow Rebellion outpost there. Apparently, the Empire has taken over the planet. Most managed to escape, yet there are a few stranded there. With the Stormtrooper activity in the streets, they can't escape."
"So... you want me to think of a strategy to get them out?" Y/N inquired not looking at the Captain but checking their coordinates and the ship's status on the panel.
"We want you to help us get them off the ground," it was Bodhi this time turning to look at her from the cockpit.
"You need a pattern in how the troopers rotate," her mind had turned to strategy mode. "That can be easily done, but it'll take a day for me to figure it out, or however much time it passes before I see a connection..."
"We already have that," Cassian interrupted her thinking.
"Then why do y-"
"You're needed on the ship," Jyn explained as she took the copilot seat. "That last manoeuvre you did in your last mission," she exhaled in awe at the girl, "damn, you saved everyone's lives. So there is a chance we might need to pull a quick getaway. If things work out it should be less than an hour, worst case scenario it's expected to take a day, but in any case, why not have the best when we can?" she smiled towards Y/N who furiously blushed.
"Wait," it was K-2SO that had stepped onto the ship, pushing the button to close the doors, "does that mean I can go on the mission and I won't have to stay on the ship?"
Cassian sighed and hung his head, but the ghost of a smile played on his lips. "Yes, K-2," his accented voice affirmed, "you will be coming with us in the city."
"Finally," the droid replied, "do I get to have a blaster?"
"No!" five other voices exclaimed, Y/N's eyes scanning the back of the ship and noticing Chirrut and Baze.
"All right," K-2 took a seat on a metal bench that lined the wall, "you don't have to be so rude about it. Besides the statistical probability of Jyn shooting one of you instead of me is 6:1." He grumbled further something about how it'll look suspicious that an Imperial droid didn't have any weapons but no one on the team paid any mind as the U-Wing was lifted off the ground and Bodhi took them into light speed.
As the starts whizzed by Cassian turned once again to the shy girl. He looked her over from head to toe and put a new goal for him- after the mission was done, he would make Y/N hang back and finally ask her out.
"So can you do it?" Jyn asked.
"What?" Cassian hadn't heard the rest of the question as he looked at his fellow teammate.
"Not you," she nudged her head at Y/N, "you, Commander. Can you do the manoeuvre?"
She squared herself and looked at the given material. "When I first did it, I was flying a ship three times as big. So in theory," she looked back at Jyn, the confidence of being a leader seeping into her veins and making her smile, "I can do it three times faster."
Jyn's only response was a brilliantly white smile and then she turned to look back into hyperspace.
