Y/N was floating. Or at least she felt like it. A dark ocean surrounded the girl as she stayed right below the surface. She could hear familiar voices, shouting, sometimes her body jolted so hard it went above the dark water and then pain rippled through it. Her Y/E/C eyes shot open and saw the blurry shapes of bright orange flames and people both in white Stormtrooper outfits and then in the normal clothing of rebels. One of them refused to let her go, as the man kept muttering for Y/N to hold on.
"Cassian," she breathed out, right as her mind plunged back into the darkness.
It didn't hurt there, under the waves. A soothing current lulled her into peacefulness.
"Come," it called from somewhere deep down in the pitch black, "there is no pain here." And so she went.
Inch by inch her body moved further down, light from the above growing smaller and smaller. As a kid, she wasn't afraid of the ocean or water as a whole, but she was cautious when swimming. Who knows what kind of monsters lurked underneath ready to grab her by the soft flesh and pull her down to her death.
But here there was none of that, for she was alone. No fear, no pain, no hurt. This was her own little ocean of peace. And the further she went down the more relaxed she felt.
Anxiety ebbed out of the edges of her body and floated away like dark bits of seaweed. The fear stained the water in bright red patches. It floated up, up to where the light came from and dissipated into nothingness. Only content filled her veins now.
The deeper she went the more memories she lost. Y/N forgot about Kylo Ren and the suffering that had come with him, the destruction of her home and life. She forgot about Rose and Finn, Jyn, K-2, Baze, Chirrut, BB-8, Rey, Chewie, Poe, Han and Leia. All of it was wiped away leaving her mind clear of everything. Cassian was the last to exit her thoughts and heart. He had become like a weed but in a good way. He'd rooted himself in her heart showing love and compassion, resilience and trust, but above all he'd given her hope and a possibility of a family.
Y/N didn't want to let go of him, but the further down she went, the harder it was keeping those memories intact. Things started to blur together and turned into a mush until she couldn't decipher if the day he'd first asked her out was also the day she'd fled. And so she let go of those too as she let go of herself.
Deeper and deeper she let the darkness pull her down and louder a voice from below became. It had no age or gender, it held the wonders of a child and wisdom of the elders, it recounted and explained mysteries of the universe, yet gave questions it could not answer, all of it was in balance just like the Force was.
Y/N extended an arm towards the black grainy sand that covered the sound as if brushing it away would allow her to see the source of it. It was a mile away yet they were just a centimetre apart. The darkness was so dense she wouldn't have been able to see her fingers even if they were right by her nose. If she had any fingers. To Y/N she could just be a projection of her body or simply consciousness alone, but to the girl, it didn't matter. The Force promised endless peace and return to where everything came from. Her deed in the world was done.
Just as Y/N was about to succumb fully to it, a voice from above made her look up. It was weak, the sound could barely travel to her, but the familiarity was what made the girl diverge. For a few seconds she waited to hear it again, but it didn't. The Force kept calling and right as she once again was about to give herself up, the same plea travelled down, this time louder, more persistent and it carried emotion Y/N couldn't quite understand.
She floated a bit more up towards the light. Was that... pain? Anger? Hope? she heard in it? A bit closer, she needed to hear it clearer. Yes, all of that and more. Y/N didn't remember who it belonged to but realised it was a man's voice and he was pleading for someone to keep fighting, to not give up. He was calling a name that sent warmth through her, yet she didn't know the meaning of it. Mi Alma... laced with such care and passion the only thing she wanted to do was stroke the stranger's cheek and tell him it will be all right.
The girl was right at the surface and she could hear him chanting the name "Y/N" like a prayer. Who was this girl? She needed to help the grieving man so gently she touched the surface of the water and blinding hot pain soared through her body yanking her out of the darkness.
