The ship jerked forward as the person who Y/N now recognised to be Bodhi put them in light speed. Her eyes flitted up to Cassian's face. He was still just as handsome as she remembered. Few more cuts and bruises here and there, but it was still him. Her Cass.
"I'm sorry," she mumbled stepping away from his touch, "you're mistaking me for somebody else."
She expected Cassian to say something, but before he could even move a muscle, Jyn's voice cut like a knife through the growing tension. "Cut the bantha shit, L/N. You can chop off as much hair as you want and dress like a scavenger, but we all know it's you. So spill. What in the Maker's name is going on?"
"Naili?" Poe looked at Y/N with utter confusion on his face.
Her shoulders sagged. Suddenly the pain of the blaster shot ran through and her body slumped forwards with exhaustion, as the adrenaline wore off. It had all been for nothing, she thought to herself. How she had tried to make her friends despise her and left them, how she specifically made sure to hurt Cassian as much as possible, so he didn't go looking for her and how much her actions devastated herself. Because of circumstances, because of a fucking coincidence, that the Rogue One ship was the nearest one the two years of protecting the one who held her heart were now washed away.
Poe reached an arm under her shoulder and helped her sit down. "You got hit."
"It's nothing," Y/N murmured, "they have it worse."
The sudden pain on the wound made her yelp out. Looking down Poe had the first aid kit open and a rag that smelled strongly of alcohol was tightly pressed against the now blistering skin. "I don't think you're in any position to be a smart-ass, commander."

"I would say it's good to see you, but that would be a 100% lie," K-2 loomed over the two fellow rebels.
"Well," Y/N readjusted herself on the metal chair, "can't say I'm too thrilled to be here either."
She had to hurt them once again, and that made bile rise up in her throat. The first time had been horrible enough, but looking over to Cassian, who was still awestruck that his love, his one and only was back to him made Y/N even more determined, that this time there was no coming back.
"Y/N," Jyn came over to the pair, "I asked you a question."
With regret in her heart Y/N stood up, levelled her gaze and sneered at the woman, "and I don't take orders from anyone else but the General." With a straight back and eyes directly on the control panel, she sauntered over to where Bodhi was sitting, still too shocked by the woman next to him. "When we drop out of hyperspace there is a large possibility that some people from my base will have already gotten to Yavin4. I suggest that before doing so you announce that this ain't a First Order ship, otherwise we could have ourselves a sticky situation."
The man's large brown eyes looked at her as if she was a stranger, and she hoped to everything and anything, that he didn't see her as his friend anymore. One less person whose heart she'd need to shatter and Y/N didn't think that her own could hold together if she'd have to break sweet Bodhi's one again.
With eyes cast down and then back through the window, he replied a simple "yes, commander," and went back to communicating with the base.
She was startled by Cassian's hand resting on the wounded shoulder, his accented voice invading her senses and Y/N felt like she would crack then and there. "You need stitches."
"No, I don't. A salve and a bandage will be fine." Her body jerked away from him, even though the only thing Y/N wanted to do was melt against Cassian. To have his arms wrap around her and have their lips mold together once again.
"Yes, you do." His voice was soft, barely above a whisper. Y/N couldn't understand why he was being so caring, even though she was trying to be as big of a bitch as possible to him. Cassian didn't listen to her protests as he wove his fingers through hers and led her back to the seat, crouching down to her eye level.
He removed what was left of the gauze and looked at the marred flesh. Cassian's fingers worked diligently and were light as a feather. His mind couldn't comprehend what was happening. It was his Y/N. It truly was her. The skin was just as soft as he remembered it to be from times when their legs were tangled together under the sheets and his fingers traced invisible love confessions on her back. It was the same Y/H/C, only cut shorter. Those same Y/E/C stared at his hands and how he pulled the synthetic thread and needle through her skin.
Cassian wanted to kiss her so bad. To see if her lips tasted just the same if they still were just as soft as when he'd done it last. And that was two years ago. Since Y/N left he hadn't stopped looking for her. He just didn't believe her when she had told him there could never be a future for them, not together. Every spare second was spent scouring the galaxy for any clue of where she could have disappeared, but there had been nothing. Now he knew why. He should have guessed she'd be smarter than to go by her own name. And if she had still been a part of the Resistance right after their breakup the name Naili Delqour he would've heard it before.
He pulled the final stitch tight and cut the cord. The second Y/N felt it snap she stood up and walked away leaving Cassian to look at the empty spot where she had sat. He knew she hadn't told the full story, that she had lied that fateful night when she told him she didn't love Cassian anymore. Y/N had pushed the engagement ring back into his palm, but the words didn't resonate with what her eyes showed him.
The beautiful Y/E/C orbs had been full of sorrow and pain and regret, but the word coming out of her mouth were cold and sharp, nothing short of filled with disgust. He had demanded Y/N to look him in the eyes and tell him there is no love left in her for Cassian and the moment those words escaped her mouth he was determined to make her say what was really going on, even if it meant letting her go away for the night as she had packed a bag.
But what Cassian hadn't expected was that she wasn't just leaving their shared quarters or going to Mon Mothma and ask to be assigned to logistics or piloting an X-Wing, she was running away.
In the dead of night, she had climbed aboard one of the cargo ships and set off to an unknown destination. When Cassian opened his eyes and the bright morning Sun illuminated the room, he had heaved a sigh and pulled his body out of the bed. Right as he opened the door Bodhi rammed into him with a panicked yet sad look on his face. Ever since then, Cassian had not stopped looking for the girl and now, that she was confined with him and she'd have to spend time back on Yavin4 he'd make sure to figure out what the hell was going on. Cassian had lost too much to let something as good as they had simply slip through his fingers once again.
His chocolate brown eyes shifted to the woman now quietly talking to the pilot, as she linked her arm through his and led them to the weapons holding cell. Their boots clanked, steps of the two heavy and full of exhaustion, yet Poe was deliberately stomping making their path echo through the hollow ship.
"What, Naili? Or should I say Y/N?"
Y/N threw her head back in exasperation and groaned. Of course, now she'd have to deal with a pissed off Poe. "Oh, don't do this, please, Poe. There are more pressing concerns that need our attention."
"No, no, no, no, no," he turned his body back to Y/N, "right now I want to know why in Maker's name did the person who has become my best friend, who I trust more than anyone else in the entire galaxy has been fucking lying to me of who they really fucking are!"
"Poe please, I don't want to fight," the girl sighed. She couldn't risk Rogue One hearing anything. All of her work had already been thrown out of the window, but if they found out the reasons it'd be like setting everything on fire too.
"Well I do," he seethed. Poe was angry, he was really angry but behind the mask, he was trying to hide how hurt he actually was.
"Just," Y/N dragged her hands over her face, ignoring the pain in her shoulder, "just let me explain," she took Poe's hands in hers, squeezing them a bit, "but not here."
"Oh, no," he snapped away, "we're doing this right now, right here."
"I can't! Not without Leia."
Poe's eyes immediately widened and his features softened. He was one of the people Leia trusted with almost anything, so the fact that he'd been kept out of the loop by the General herself made all sort of alarms go off in his head. "What does Leia have to do with this? Nail- Y/N, what is going on?" Poe knew, that if Leia was involved, it must be something serious and that meant danger and Poe was not about to lose his best friend.
"Don't call me that. I'm still Naili," she took Poe's rugged cheeks between her palms. "I'm still the stubborn idiot that always has to best you in any drinking game and later on you have to take care of. I'm still the reckless girl that will show off in the midst of a battle, and I'm still your best friend. But just, please, please, let us get to Yavin first. I hate the fact that I can't tell you what is going on, but trust me, please. I can't lose you..." by this point tears were slipping down her cheeks, that Poe gently wiped away with his thumb.
"All right," he said as Y/N let out a shudder of relief, "but when we get to the base, I expect to be included in what is going on. Love, you know you can trust me, with anything. I'll always protect you, Bubbles."
She smiled at the nickname Poe had bestowed upon her. After one of their first missions together her ship had gone down in a lake, and Y/N had spent a while swimming to the shore. When Poe landed and took them back to the base, neither had had any time to relax as they were assigned to another mission and once again her ship's wing had gotten shot and she crash-landed in the water. Poe then started to call her Bubbles affectionately, because "nothing would take Naili down, she'll always float to the surface to give a middle finger."
Y/N wrapped her hands around Poe and they just stood there hugging for a bit. There was no out of telling the truth so Y/N just hoped that by letting Poe know, the target on his back wouldn't increase. "I know, Flyboy, I know." They untangled their bodies and small smiles graced the lips of the rebels. "Things are complicated," Y/N said, "but... I'll try as best as I can."
Poe kissed the woman's forehead and wrapped his hand around her shoulder as he'd done it many times before and led them back to the main part of the shuttle. "By the way, I like Y/N better. Suites you more."
The girl snorted and pushed Poe away. "Fuck off," she laughingly told him off. All eyes turned to the two rebels as they stepped back. Y/N's eyes went over each person and she once again took on the persona of someone she hated. She glanced around the room and saw BB-8 conversing with Jyn, which made her heart clench with adoration. "They would've made good friends," Y/N thought as both the droid and the woman clearly enjoyed each other's company. BB-8 turned his head towards Poe and rolled to him as he emitted concerned beeps.
"Yeah bud, we're all right," he glanced at the girl, "just needed to talk about some stuff."
Y/N smiled at Poe and mouthed "thank you." The droid looked at her and asked if they were still friends. "Of course, Beebs, nothing will ever make me stop being friends with you." Clearly happy with the response BB-8 whirred a sequence that could be described only as joyful and rolled over to the girl who patted his head. "Besides someone has to keep Poe safe. You and I both know without me he'd be a goner."
Protests came from the pilot's mouth but Y/N just laughed it off. She made her way to one of the benches again and sat down, ankle crossed over her knee. From a pocket on the inside of her jacket, she pulled out a hollo-pad and started typing away. Y/N had to keep herself distracted, otherwise, the growing tension between her and the Rogue One team would make her snap.
Poe was making rounds as he introduced himself to everyone, but he mostly spent it by Bodhi and K-2SO in the cockpit. Probably felt more in control. Which is why Y/N made contact with Lexi. She needed to feel like the commander of her squadron if only for a second because Cassian's gaze never left her.
She felt his brown eyes roam over her body and inspect every inch of her before it settled on her face. Y/N felt the blush creep up her neck, so with a quick shake of her head, the Y/H/C bob covered her like a curtain. The girl glanced at the clock on her holo and exhaled. What had felt like at least two hours since Poe and Y/N had saved themselves from the troopers had only been thirty minutes which meant five and a half more hours until landing.
Y/N was about to pull out some headphones and listen to music, so she'd be more preoccupied when Poe's voice invaded her ears, asking her to come to the front. With a gaze trained straightforward out into space, anywhere but on Cassian, she passed him by and leaned over Poe.
"What is it?"
"How did the troopers disconnect our comms?"
"Well," she looked at the stars whizzing by, "they probably found a way to fire up our ships and turn them off. To be fair it is not that hard to start up any ship if you have any basic knowledge of how one of them works."
"Yes, no I get that," Poe looked out into the void with a furrowed brow, "but how did they disconnect our walkie-talkies? They are not connected to the X-Wing comm system, they're specifically designed to be able to be talked through if something like that happened. You and I both know how many times that has saved our lives when a mission put us on a deserted planet and our ships had become complete wrecks."
She hadn't thought that far ahead, hadn't made that conclusion. When Y/N had ventured inside the Star Destroyer to check out the rest of the base, in hopes of them just waiting until Cassian and Jyn and K-2SO had left she had heard the Stormtroopers affirm their communications had been cut off and their ships had been blown to smithereens.
"You can't disconnect a walkie," Y/N thought aloud, "it can get out of range, but you can't completely cut communications off with the base..." And then it dawned on her. "Not unless you cut it off from the inside."
She looked at Poe, eyes filled with fear, not only with what that meant for the Resistance and with what that meant for her but what it meant in keeping Cassian safe and away from the truth. "There's a traitor on the inside," she whispered.
