The next week was spent in the hospital as Y/N tried to get a grasp of her previous life and her existing state. It was also spent relearning how to properly walk, as when she first put her feet on the cold tile floors, Cassian always by her side, keeping a secure grip on the girl's elbow, her knees had buckled and the man had to hoist her up before she crashed onto the ground.
"Oh, for fuck's sake!" she exclaimed holding onto Cassian's biceps, trying to steady herself.
"It's fine," he reassured softly smiling at her, sending warm tingles down the girl's body, "you'll get the hang of it."
"I should already have the hang of it! It's not like I've been alive for Maker knows how long," she grumbled back.
"You spent more than a week in a coma, I think you can cut yourself some slack."
"Yeah, well it's not my fault there will be a party going on in three days and I'm expected to show up. And I ain't gonna be wheeled in."
"You know it kinda is your fault."
Y/N looked up at the amused Cassian once again, a playful smirk stretching out on the rugged man's face. "Just shut up and help me."
He tightened the grip on her, while his other arm slid around her waist, pulling Y/N closer, placing her feet on top of his own. "Always."

Her heart fluttered at the word. Cassian had been there through everything, just like he had promised. He didn't push his feelings on her, nor did he take anything further than Y/N was comfortable with. Mostly they talked about what had transpired right before everything had gone to complete and utter shit, rather than their past. Y/N was still cautious around him, and kept her distance as much as possible, which completely contradicted what she actually felt and wanted to do to the man.
"I see you two are getting along quite well," General Leia's voice rang through Y/N's room.
"General," she greeted the older woman with a nod and Cassian mimicked the action.
"How are you feeling?"
A frustrated sigh escaped the girl's lips. "You know, could be better if I could get this stupid walking thing down.'
The ex-princess chuckled. In her eyes, there was no pair more compatible to be together than Cassian and Y/N. And since she thought of Y/N as her own daughter, even though there was no blood relation between the two amazing rebel women, there was a glimmer of hope that maybe they would be able to rekindle the love, that never actually went out and produce her some grandchildren.
"I think you can cut yourself some slack."
"Now you sound just like him."
"Who?" the General was confused.
"Him," Y/N nudged her chin up to Cassian, who only replied with a wide smile.
Leia chuckled, that motherly love she felt for the girl shining through. "Well, I just came to stop by and say that miss Erso wants to chat with you."
Holding onto Cassian's arm Y/N lowered herself down onto the edge of the bed, a slight pull in the hips making it harder than she wished for it to be.
"Go, Cassian, I'll be fine."
"Umm, no," Leia butted in, "Jyn wants to talk to you, Y/N."
"Me? What does she want to do with me?" the girl racked her brain for any scrap of information of what Jyn could want with her. Yes, they had talked and gotten to know one another a bit better, but still, her memories consisted of tiny smashed glass shards compared to the intricate mosaics with colour and stories everyone else had, so she had no idea what the rebel would want with her.
"Should- umm- should I go to her?" Y/N was clearly nervous, not only about being seen by everyone else and their expectations of her remembering the other rebels, but her own need to feel like she has things in control and when you can't walk, that illusion is broken quite easily.
Leia lifted a hand in denial. "No need for that, commander." Another thing Y/N would need time to get used to and another thing for her to worry about. How was the girl supposed to lead a squadron when she needed help getting to the fucking toilet? "She is on her way here, just thought I'd give you a head's up."
Y/N mimicked the soft smile playing on the older woman's lips. "Well thank you, General, for notifying me."
"Please, hun, call me Leia," she turned to exit the room before looking back at the sitting girl. "Oh, and Poe made me tell you that you need to save him a dance."
Her friend had been sent out on a small scouting mission just to check up on the fallout of the situation. Nothing dangerous, at least not as dangerous as they were used to, so most of the time her fellow pilot had spent asking updates on Y/N before Leia got so fed up she gave the girl a comm system of her own, so the man would pester her directly. Now that he was on the way back to the base and Y/N's recovery had intensified, they didn't really have much time to talk, once again resulting the General to become a messenger.
Y/N snorted. "Thank you Gen- Leia," she corrected herself and smiled.
"Anytime, dear."
With that, the woman disappeared going back to her duties of leading a rebellion and planning the party in celebration of getting back their friends. To be fair, Y/N wasn't that keen on going to it. Knowing the fact that she'd be at the centre of the attention and she'd probably be expected to make a speech, it all just made her want to stay in the hospital or get relocated to her quarters where she could hide under a mountain of blankets and rediscover the worlds of the books she had fallen in love with, only to become immersed in them once again.
"I should go. Let you and Jyn talk in private." Cassian's eyes met Y/N's Y/E/C ones.
"Okay," her feet slipped under the covers as she settled fully in the bed.
"If you need anything just give a call an-"
"And you'll be here in less than a second," Y/N finished Cassian's sentence. "I know, I remember."
He smiled at her, though it seemed to the girl that since their conversation that night he hadn't been able to stop doing that, a permanent look of happiness etched onto the rugged features, the beautiful chocolate eyes gleaming with delight.
"I'll come back a bit later, gotta check up on the rest of the team. Oh, and Y/N," he looked at the girl, mischief glinting through, accompanied with something else, something that made a pleasant shiver run down her spine. "I'll want a dance too."
A shy smile graced her lips even though her stomach was churning with anxiety. "Sure thing, captain."
Y/N watched the brown leather jacket of Cassian disappear, secretly dreading the next three upcoming days where nothing but stress would consume the girl with the anticipation of the ball.
