It took Y/N a good couple of minutes to collect herself. The girl wiped her eyes and took a deep breath. It had to be done, otherwise, Cassian would never stop trying to save her. And with what she had planned, there was no coming back alive for her.
When she entered the main hull all eyes apart from Cassian's were trained on her. Questioning, Jyn's accusing, but mostly confused.
"You okay?" Poe mouthed in Y/N's direction to which she just weakly nodded pulling a smile on her face, yet the fakeness of it made it look like a grimace.
"What's our status?" her voice came out hoarser than intended, so she cleared her throat.
"Fine," it was Poe who responded, "we have four hours and forty-five minutes left to go."
It had taken her fifteen minutes to have her heart mended and broken to nothing...
"Wow," Y/N thought to herself bitterly, "this must be a new record." She looked at Poe and once again only mimicking the words, not letting any sound out she asked, "did you figure anything out?"
The fellow pilot grabbed her hand and pressed the small piece of paper there. She unfolded it, feeling Cassian glance over at her and then at the paper, but only for a split second before his eyes went back to watching the hyperspace.
Her Y/E/C eyes looked at what sat in her palm and it was empty. She turned it over, but that side was empty too. There was nothing. They hadn't come up with any way to safely inform the Resistance without alerting the First Order. This wasn't a dead end which you could climb over, this was a box and they were trapped.
She wanted to groan and pull out her hair, yet had to remain calm and composed. Y/N put aside her shattered heart and the thoughts of Cassian hating her for the rest of his life, all her own doing and switched to commander mode. There had been plenty of what seemed like inescapable situations as a pilot and also as a fleeing woman, so she could muster up something, at least that is what the girl hoped for.
"K-2, can I talk to you?"
The droid slowly looked at the rebel and stood quietly for a moment. "Well since my noise receptors are picking up your voice, which is coming from your mouth and the vibrations the realise of your breath is producing sound in different frequencies and as seemingly you have directed the question to me, I would say yes, you can talk to me."
Y/N deadpanned and she felt that if the Imperial droid could roll his eyes, he would, but nonetheless, he came over to where the girl was sitting on the bench now, her holo switched off and tucked inside her jacket.
"Theoretically speaking," she had lowered her voice to barely a whisper, "how many ways can we safely alert the base of a possible attack, without giving away that we know about the mole?"
K-2 actually looked like he was serious for once, as he made his calculations. "The chance of the spy not finding out about what knowledge we possess is less than 3%, given that our assumptions about them are correct. They are even slimmer if there is one already present on Yavin4 too."
"Damn it!" she hissed. "Okay, fine, but how many different ways can we just alert the base and have enough time to rally an army to fight back?"
"Less than 32.7% and around eighty-three options."
"All right, thank you K-2."
"I would say it was a pleas-"
"But you would be lying, I know," Y/N finished for the droid without glancing at him as he made his way back to stand next to the captain.
She started to go through every possible solution, the droid no doubt had come up with himself, but as Y/N went over every way she could inform the base, the problem of the mole rose up once again. She took into consideration that Leia probably knew and would have ten backup plans, but Yavin4 and Mon Mothma could be in the dark, so that was the biggest issue to figure out. She had thought of trying to make a connection with the General, but too much could go wrong, especially because the tug from Kylo's side was increasing with every minute. Y/N didn't know how much longer with being so untrained she'd be able to resist.
And even if she could talk to Leia, what could they do? Even the brave princess would have a hard time deciding how to break those news to Mon Mothma and probably it wouldn't happen in time before Y/N stepped foot onto Yavin's ground alerting the spy.
It was around option sixty-seven when Jyn cleared her throat bringing the commander out of her pondering. She made a motion on her wrist signalling that it was time. Time for Y/N to recount everything once again and try not break down into hysterics.
She sighed and stood up from the metal bench, pointing to Bodhi, Jyn and K-2 to follow her back into the armoury.
"Hey Jyn," she suddenly exclaimed making everyone but Cassian turn to her, "would you mind helping me out? I think I heard some rattling back in the weapon's storage. Maybe Bodhi and K-2 could come with, I don't know what is wrong so we might need some more manpower."
It seemed to Y/N that Jyn had caught on to the play and replied with a curt "sure."
Bodhi just stood up without a word and disappeared, while K-2 clanked with every step he took. Y/N was the last one to follow and she took a deep breath before entering the now occupied part of the ship.
