I tried to arrange my thoughts. First priority was to get away from this at all costs, but right now, it didn't seem like the guy who held me thought about letting me go anytime soon. He dragged me past the houses of Harlem, I noticed how my feet seemed to get more numb with every step.
The house we stopped at looked old and run-down, ivy covering the dirty walls and the roof looked like it could collapse every second. The first things that caught my attention were lights and loud music, then I noticed how weird it smelled.
We started making our way through all the people when I suddenly noticed that the guy had let me go. I looked for him in the crowd, but he was nowhere in sight. This was probably a positive sign, but I didn't trust it. The fact that I was going to look for an exit was so predictable, and it made me uncomfortable.
There was no way they had just dragged me here to let me go right after we arrived.
I was lost in my thoughts when I suddenly felt a hard object colliding with my arm, making me squeal in pain.
The impact made me lose balance and I fell on the dirty floor. I slowly got up when I suddenly met eyes with a guy my age. He had brown hair that hung just past his blue eyes and a little scar above his left eyebrow.
"I'm sorry, I didn't see you", he shouted over the music so I could understand him. "Are you alright?" I nodded. He led me to a couch and told me to take a seat. "Who even are you?", I asked a bit harshly. He laughed and rubbed the back of his neck.
"I'm Derek, the guy who is throwing this party", he smiled. That was embarrassing, now it seemed as if I had just got in here without knowing anybody. I felt the blood rush to my cheeks. "Oh, I'm sorry. Nice to meet you." "Can I bring you anything to drink?", he asked. "Oh, I don't really drink alcohol", I declined. He shrugged. "Doesn't have to be alcoholic, just for you to stay hydrated and shit?", he said, a grin forming on his face.
Could I trust him? Well, technically, I couldn't trust anyone here. But he was the one who threw the party, what could go wrong? I'll just drink a glass of water, then tell him I had to be somewhere, I thought. "A glass of water would be nice." He nodded. "I'll be back soon", Derek said and disappeared in the crowd of moving, sweaty bodies.
He was back after a few minutes, handing me a cup of water. He had got himself a shot. "Cheers!", he laughed and we both drank our drinks. The water tasted a little unusual, but I was so thirsty I just enjoyed the cold liquid running down my throat.
Derek asked me a few questions and we had basic small talk when I felt how everything started to slow down a little. "Hey, you good?", he asked me when I had to take my time to answer as unexpected dizziness took over my body.
I slowly moved my head in an up and downward motion. "I'm just a little tired, didn't sleep much last night", I lied. He nodded, and that minute I finally understood what was happening. With that look in his eyes, I realized he knew exactly what was going on. I had to get away from here before it was too late.
The voices started to fade, everything was so colorful. It was beautiful, the beat of the song that was playing started to get really slow. I felt my feet going numb again, every sound blended in with one another, adding up to an uncontrollable roar inside of my head.
"It was very nice talking to you, Derek", I managed to say and stood up, but collapsed on the ground. Stay conscious, a voice in my head screamed. He had caught me just in time. "What? Why don't you stay a little longer?", he asked, picking me up. His face was so close, and before I knew it, he laid his lips on mine.
I couldn't move and gasped for air, tried to push him away, but I had no energy to do so. He pressed me against the wall and kissed my neck, holding my thighs. I could see all the people dancing, my vision was getting darker and slower with every second. My head hurt so terribly I thought it was going to burst every second.
Tears started to form in my eyes which were slowly starting to shut. I caught a glimpse of three people that were coming straight towards us. I faced the front guy. He suddenly looked directly at me, and I recognized Rakim's face. It was contorted in anger.
"Zara, what the fuck, do you have any clue who that is!", Rocky screamed. Ferg landed a firm punch in Derek's face, who had noticed too late. He punched him right back. Now that Derek wasn't holding me anymore, I felt how my legs started to give in.
Rocky pinned me against the wall. "What the hell?", he screamed at me. "We were worried, looking for your egoistic ass and you bitch had just run away to another party kissing some dude you don't even know? What the fuck is wrong with you!" I couldn't open my eyes. "Look at me! Open your damn eyes!"
I felt tears streaming down my face. "So now you're crying! You know what, fuck you." Rakim pushed me away, so hard I couldn't find my balance and was forced to slide down the wall and sit on the floor. I felt my stomach flip and before I realized what was happening, I threw up. I groaned in pain. He was right beside me immediately.
"Oh no", he whispered. "Zara, did they give you anything?", he asked. I couldn't answer, just stared at him with an empty gaze. "Answer me, Zara!" "Water", I managed to say. "It tasted strange'', I added. " He sharply inhaled, then said something I didn't understand. I crashed on the floor, my head collided with the ground.
I heard how everything shut down. My mouth was open, and I was laying on the floor. "Fuck!", he cursed. I just tried to breathe in, and out again. I felt someone pick me up. My head rolled back, as I was carried out. Ferg said something, his voice was so close, it was probably him carrying me. We got outside, I felt the cold air hitting me. I was being laid down, then engines started. I was in a car. I breathed slowly.
"I don't know If she's gonna make it, who knows what that motherfucker put into her 'water'", Joey said. My head lay on someone. "Fuck", Rocky sighed. "What if she dies? If she's gone", he asked. "She's still breathing", Ferg said. I could feel Rocky's hand on mine. That's when the blackness overcame me.
Voices. Light. Darkness. "But what if she doesn't! Her brother would go crazier than he already is, thinking I killed her!" That was definitely Rocky talking. "And she doesn't deserve to die like that, just look at her!", he said. It was silent. I still couldn't move, everything felt so heavy. Thinking clearly was hard. A long beep sound, my eyes rolling around. Heavy breathing. My nose tickling, a tear running. Blurry pictures, everything was faded. Head in the clouds. Falling. Deep water. Fear. Pain. Pain everywhere.
Rocky and I were walking down the street together. Snow. The only thing I heard was car noise in the background and our footsteps. The rain intensified. Suddenly I saw something move in the corner of my eye. "Watch out!", I screamed. He looked at me in confusion, that's when I jumped on him, making us both crash on the floor. Someone jumped over us, a knife in his hand. The shock overcame me, it made me feel numb. It was my brother. Rocky's jaw clenched. He closed his eyes. Three men ran up to Rocky and brought him to his knees. He wasn't fighting. "No!", I screamed and tried to help him. But it was too late. Rocky was kneeling on the ground, his hands tied together. Zack pointed his gun at him. "No, don't do this!", I screamed in horror. Someone grabbed me by the arm, I shook it off. "Don't! Rakim!", I cried. He was staring on the ground, then I could hear a gunshot. Blood. Everywhere. His eyes, up in the sky. Rakim was gone. I screamed.
"I need you to wake up, I don't know what to do, Zara. Please open your eyes, tell me you're alright. You can't leave. I promise I'll protect you with my life." My life. My life. I needed to wake up. But I just couldn't. I couldn't.
Darkness overcame me, drowning out all my thoughts.
