Survival 2

Chapter 21

We all froze. Somehow something got in past Alex and I when we were looking around. Sara held up her gun towards the place we heard the bang. Soon everyone was walking towards that side. We all watched each other making sure none of us were attacked. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see some movement. The zombie jumped out and hit me knocking me down, but it grabbed Jonah. He screamed in agonizing pain while it tore at his skin and flesh. Jack shot it in the head. The zombie was just a child. When I looked up I could see the tears start to form in Sara's eyes. Nobody wanted to be here.

"Maybe we should move." Sara suggested.
"It's not good for us to keep moving though, you could have the baby any day now." Taylor said.
" He's right, but so are you." I told Sara.
We all looked at each other for a minute. By the way everyone stared at each other I could tell we were all thinking the same thing.

We grabbed some of the things we needed and headed to one of the houses. With the baby coming any day now we knew we weren't gonna be safe. The child would make to much noise, and we would have to get lots of supplies for the kid. Many times I thought about leaving them instead of having to take care of them, but I knew I should stay. Without them I would get myself killed, and when the baby arrives they will need extra help. That and I wouldn't be able to bring myself to leaving them.

Everyday was a struggle to survive. We had to help each other, keep watch, find supplies, or try to get along. That was the hardest thing, getting along. Slowly we all started to hate each other. Somedays we could barely look at each other. Everyone would get into an argument about something stupid. Many times we kept silent and never said a word to anyone. Other days it was like we all loved each other, and we all acted like nothing ever happened. Unlike today, Taylor and Sara got into a huge fight the kids started to argue, Lexi started an argument with Alex, and they all wouldn't talk to me. I had enough of it, I grabbed a bag packed supplies grabbed Timber and left.

I didn't leave for good, I just walked to a different house. We were across the street from them. There was no way I would have left them forever. The only reason I left that house was because I didn't want to talk or see them right now. I watched Sara storm out of the house and slam the door, so I decided to go get her.

"Sara, come here, you can stay with me for now." I told her.
She walked over to the house I was at and come inside.
"Taylor is making me really angry." She fumed.
"Well right now he doesn't matter, it shall just be us and we can talk." I said.
We walked over to the couch and sat down. Sara stared at me for a minute.
"Amber, are you okay?"
"Yeah, why?" I asked sounding a bit confused.
"Well, ever since you woke up you seem kinda different, like, you seem distant." She said.
"I guess I have been acting different, but it's just that ever since I woke up I realized how easy it is for people to turn on each other."
Sara nodded then hugged me tight.

The rest of the day we sat in the house and talked. When it started to get darker out, we grabbed the stuff I took with me and went back to the house everyone was in. Taylor and Sara apologized to each other, Lexi and Alex forgave each other, and the kids started talking again. Everyone acted like nothing ever happened. It seemed better acting like nothing happened, and just moving on. All night long all I could think about was the conversation Sara and I had. Maybe I was acting different, or maybe I just didn't want to get attached to them 'cause I knew how easy it was for everyone to turn against each other.
