Fallen

Chapter Four: The Cliff

People hurry to build up the wall. Wells was found dead outside of camp. Now people are even more scared and more willing to work. Murphy goes around, yelling at people to work. One person tries to drink some water and he just pushes him away.

"You can drink water when the wall is finished," Murphy barks.

"It's just some water," the guy responds. 

"You need something to drink?" Murphy asks. He unzips his pants and starts pissing on the guy. "Here's your water break." The guy moves away in discuss. Murphy zips his pants back up. "Get back to work."

People grumble as they go back to doing their tasks. Ash helps hold up a log as another person buries the bottom of it. Once it is stable enough, they can start adding metal plates taken off the dropship. A door has already been formed. It slides opens and is made to lock and unlock from the inside. Jasper and Octavia leave the camp together. His first time since he was attacked. 

Ash turns back to what she was doing and takes a step back. Once sure it is stable enough, she starts passing metal sheets to others. People start muttering complaints about Murphy not letting anyone stop to drink water. The group sets up more of the wall before Ash walks over to where the water is. Murphy goes to stop her, but she pushes him back slightly. She is done with him.

"You can't just prevent people from drinking water," she tells him.

"They want water, they should finish the wall," he argues, getting closer to her.

"No," she snaps back, not backing down from him. "You want people to work efficiently, then treat them properly. No one can work if dehydrated or tired."

Murphy doesn't respond, just smirks. At this point, Clarke is storming over to them. Ash steps aside, ready to argue that Murphy was wrong. 

"Do you recognize this?" Clarke asks Murphy, showing a knife.

"It's a knife," he responds.

"'J M'," she reads on the handle. "This is your knife."

"Where did you find it?"

"Where Wells was found." A crowd is forming. Bellamy pushes Ash back as he steps towards the other two. "Grounders didn't kill Wells. You did."

"He tried to kill Jasper too," Octavia chimes up. This surprises some people as well. 

"Float him," someone shouts and the crowd quickly turns into a mob. Clarke keeps shouting for them to stop, though her voice is barely audible over the masses. Ash watches as a rope is thrown over a tree branch in horror. They force Murphy on a crate and a noose around his neck. 

"This isn't right," Ash says, snapping out of shock. "We are not our parents."

Some seem to notice her shouting at them. But most ignore her like they have been with the others protesting this. People shout for Bellamy to float Murphy.

"I saw you with Atom," Clarke tells him. "You are not a killer."

"This is on you, Princess," he states, pointing at her. "You should've kept your mouth shut."

He moves past Clarke for Ash to step between. She places a hand on his chest, stopping him.

"Don't," she calmly states. He pushes her out of the way before kicking the crate out from under Murphy. People prevent Finn from running forward and Bellamy goes to keep Ash from stopping this.

"Stop," a young voice cries. Charlotte runs forward out of the crowd. "I killed him. I killed Wells."

Shock takes over Ash once more. This girl is only a child. How would she be capable of doing this? Clarke cuts Murphy down and unties his wrists. Bellamy quickly leads Charlotte to the big tent with Clarke, Finn, and Ash running after them.
