Chapter Eleven: The Calm

Ash walks past Bellamy, trying to hide her smile. He smirks at her while she goes back towards the smokehouse, carrying more boar meat. 

"What's going on between you and  my brother?" Octavia asks.

"Nothing," Ash quickly responds while hanging up the meat.

"Last time you two looked at each other like that, you guys were talking about moving in together."

"You two were going to move in together?" Murphy butts in.

"Beat it," Ash snaps. He puts his hand up in surrender before going back to his task. Del walks in and throws more wood onto the fire.

"That's too much," Octavia snaps. "Put some wet leaves on it."

"Like I'm going to listen to a Grounder-Pounder," he snaps.

"Hey," Ash yells at him. "You will not speak to her like that. Now do as she says before I make you regret it."

He mutters something under his breath before he leaves.

"Why don't you get your brother to give you a better job?" Murphy asks.

"Someone has to do it," Octavia responds. They continue hanging up the meat. Ash could feel the heat in the place increase and the amount of smoke makes it more unbearable to breathe. She turns to see the flames growing out of control.

"Everyone out," she orders, pulling Octavia through the door. The fire keeps going, engulfing the smokehouse. People scream fire and hurrying to get water on it. 

"She warned you," Murphy yells at Del, attacking him. Bellamy quickly hurries over, breaking the fight up.

"Save it for the Grounders," he orders. 

"All our food is burnt up," Octavia calls out in frustration. She goes to explain to her brother what happened while the rest of the camp rush to put the flames out. With everyone working together, it is put out quickly. Thankfully nothing else caught on fire, but the smokehouse is destroyed. Clarke starts sifting through the ash. Bellamy tells her what happened before he goes back to Ash.

"We're going to need to hunt," she states.

"I need to put a group-"

"Multiple groups. If we do that, higher chances of more meat."

"Very smart."

Bellamy starts barking orders and everyone hurries to find a hunting group. Ash teams with Miller, him taking the gun. Every group is allowed one gunner for Grounders. Del also joins the two just in case. Ash can see Finn and Clarke are teamed up with Myles. She glances across camp to see Raven walking the other way. Her and Finn just broke up and it has been a bit awkward around camp since. Bellamy stands by the gate, holding it open for all those leaving. 

"Keep her out of trouble," he jokes with Miller.

"I'll try to keep her alive," he laughs back.

"You two are so funny," she sarcastically responds. "We'll be back before dark."

The three set out into the woods to find some food for the camp.

The three work to carry the large hog back through the gate. People hurry to help skin and flay it. From the looks of it, the other hunting parties are also bringing back other animals it eat. The smokehouse has also been partially rebuilt. Ash heads inside the dropship to find Monty working on the radio.

"Need any help?" she asks.

"Not right now," he responds. "Raven was working on walkie talkies, but..."
