Calikit watched as a crowd began to fill around the nursery. " What's going on?" She dared to ask. "Bowflare is having her kits!" Oceankit exclaimed. "Really?" Calikit imagined new playmates. But what if they were like Shallowkit? They wouldn't be any fun! Calikit squirmed to the front of the nursery. She had never seen so many warriors! A black tom stood pacing in front of the nursery. Calikit tried to squeeze past him, but he snarled. "Get lost!" He hissed. "Calikit!" With relief, Calikit spotted Foxtrot dashing towards her. She picked her up by the scruff and sat her down on the far edge of the clearing with Stormkit and Chirpkit. " We want to see what's going on!" Stormkit wailed. " Yeah! Everybody else gets to!" Chirpkit cried as Foxtort put Caikit down. "Why did that tom snarl at me?" Calikit whimpered. "Is he like daddy?" Foxtrot shook her head. "No, that's Bowflare's mate, and toms are usually very protective  about their mates and kits." Calikit sighed with relief, then her relief faded when she saw Acornpelt watching them in the shadows, eyes full with undisguised  hatred. "Yeah." She muttered darkly. "Usually." The cats stirred anxiously as the painful screams continued.  Finally, Tansytail appeared at the entrance of the nusrery. " 5 kits!" She declared, and yowls on congratulions arose from the crowd of cats. Chirpkit yawned. They have been waiting for so long, it was now moonhigh. "Let's get you kits inside." foxtrot purred, picking the tired Chirpkit up. "But I want to see the kits!" Stormkit protested. "You can see them as you go to your nest." Foxtrot replied through a mouthful of golden fur, nudging him to the nursery.Calikit sleepily trudged after them, images of her cozy nest in her mind. At the entance of the nursery, the black cat still guarded. He eyed them suspiciously, and Foxtrot let out a sigh. " Geckotail, we aren't here to harm Bowflare or your kits. We just want rest." Geckotail reluctantly let them past, and Calikit felt his eyes burning into her fur as she padded over to her nest. Foxtrot halted a few tail-lengths from her nest, and Calikit nearly rammed into her hind legs. "What is it?" She demanded, peeking underneath Foxtrots' legs. "Bowflare!" She gasped, wriggling under her mothers' legs until she stood in front of her. "Where are the kits? Did a badger take them? Can i fight it for you?" She asked, unsheathing her claws. Bowflare shook her head. "No, dear, their right here." Bowflare moved her tail, revealing 5 tiny kits, squirming in the curve of her belly. "There names are Nightkit, Spiritkit, Splashkit, Frecklekit, and Silverkit." Calikit sighed. "Those are beautiful names." She told Bowflare, then she turned to her mother. "Why didn't you name me one of those names!!! They are prettier than Calikit!" Foxtrot looked down at her with her brown eyes, which held a spark of amusement. "Because those names are meant for these kits." She told her.  " Now, scurry to bed!" Calikit flung herself into her nest and soon fell asleep, pictures of the newborn kits dancing in her mind.
