"the girl with two selves..."
☾MILLIE HAS NEVER been an incredible dancer, but she really loves it. It's just a bit of fun and you don't have to worry about how stupid you look because everyone looks stupid. 'If they laugh at you they're just jealous,' that's what her mam always says. It's a bit silly, she knows, but it's helped Mils a lot over the years and it seems like it's going to help her at the Yule Ball.
She's secretly hoping she'll be the best dancer there, it's not very likely, but she would really love it. Just a real 'poo you' to all the people that have been mean to her. There's also only one person she's even thought about going with since McGonagall announced it about a minute ago—so she's had plenty of time to think about plenty of people, yet she hasn't. She can only imagine going with Harry. It's silly, but, hopefully, he won't be able to get someone else to go with him and he'll have to take Millie! It sounds very sad but in Millie's mind, it's not. She's imagining that he wants to go with her, but he's too scared to ask her so he doesn't. Though, when everyone else rejects him, he'll decide that it'd make sense to ask Millie and act like he's just asking her because they're friends so it'll be fun. Really though, he's been dreaming about going with Millie too and he's so blimmin happy that she's not going with anyone else... This is all made up in Millie's head though, so it's more likely that the first option will be the reason. Nevertheless, she doesn't really care which way it happens, she just wants to go with Harry. Think about how fit he'll be in dress robes!
"The Yule Ball is, first and foremost, a dance, and while it is, of course, a chance for us all to- um- let our hair down," McGonagall does not look nearly excited as most of the girls. She looks a bit like she absolutely hates the idea of a ball. It's so sad, you're meant to be excited when you learn you're going to a ball. That's how all fairytales come about! Think Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Millie doesn't think any of the other princesses had actual balls but they at least had beautiful dresses! Ball, dress, prince, and a tragical story about a sad little girl... They're the classic ingredients for a fairytale. Who isn't excited? "But that does not mean that we will be relaxing the standards of behaviour we expect from Hogwarts students. I will be most seriously displeased if a Gryffindor student embarrasses the school in any way." Jesus, how has McGonagall already turned this into some sort of assignment? This is meant to be fun!
