Jay took in a sharp breath before shrugging his shoulders. "Voight just told me to take the sergeant's exam and to get ready to run the unit when his time here is over."

My eyes widen slightly. "Wait, seriously?"

He nods slowly. "Yeah," he replies, and if his words hadn't been enough to convince me that was what had gone down in the office between Jay and Voight then the look on Jay's face says it all. "You think the Ivory Tower will really fire him?"

I sigh. "I'm surprised he's made it this far without being fired."

Jay looks around the room, pacing around the room once before dropping his gaze back down on me, waiting for answers. "What am I supposed to do, Hailey?"

"What do you mean? You've just been given the opportunity to run one of the most elite units in the CPD, you should take it." I tell him, knowing that even if he really wanted it, he'd have to hear it from someone else, be told to take it by someone else first.

Jay stops in his tracks. "But why me? There are so many other cops in this city that would kill for a superior role like this, why am I being given this and not them?"

I put my hands out and rest them on his shoulders. "Because Voight knows you, he trusts you, he knows you're more than capable of running this unit. You've been here longer than everyone else, and you're a much better cop than most of those people. If they're willing to kill for it then they should not be a sergeant, let alone run a unit. You've been patient and now's your chance, this might be where you're meant to be, where you're meant to go."

The slight panic that had been in his voice was now gone, replaced by a little uncertainty and a bit of confidence. "You sure?"

I nod. "Yes," is all I have to say, gaining a nod in return from Jay before I loop my hands around his neck, interlocking my fingers together and standing on my toes slightly, "Not to mention the uniform change, I'd think you'd look very handsome in the white shirt and stripes with the blue on your badge." I add, my voice dropping down.

"Oh yeah?" He wiggles his eyebrows .

I hum in agreement, nodding my head again but am cut off from saying anything by Jay lowering his lips against mine slowly, despite our general rule about keeping it all professional at work.

The kiss is over within a beat and Jay shoots me a smile after we part. "Thank you."

I furrow my eyebrows, unsure on why he was thanking me. "How come?" I question.

He just lightly shrugs his shoulder. "Just for being you, I don't know what I'd do without it." He says before pecking my lips again and then parting away from me, taking off out the break room again to return back to his desk.

The next month goes by relatively quickly, and at this point I'm sure everyone in the unit knew of the fact I was pregnant, of course it was only Adam and Kevin we hadn't told but I think they had picked up on my sudden bursts toward the bathroom and constant staying at my desk, and I don't think the excuse "waiting for the Ivory Tower to phone" to explain my inactiveness on duty could be used anymore.

By now I'm sure a lot of people had figured it out. I had been confronted by Trudy on multiple occasions so eventually I had to tell her to get her off my back and when all of us went to Molly's the other day Stella had immediately figured it out when I had asked for a non-alcoholic substitute for what everyone else was drinking, along with Herrmann and everyone else sat around that part of the bar.

We were sat back in the doctor's office for our second appointment, but I found myself more nervous about this one than the last one. It had been over a month since we were last here, and the office looked exactly the same, from the same insanely noisy stool to the wall of pictures of babies staring right at me.
