In both romantic novels and love song lyrics, it's so radiantly blinding to me. But no matter what I do, I can't reach it. I mean, I understand the meaning of it without looking it up in a dictionary, but it's something that I'll never have.

---

The cherry blossoms have all turned green, and I'm already used to the steep slope in front of the school gate and our new school uniforms.

I sat at my desk looking down at my phone to read old text messages.

"Still, even after I entered my first year of high school, There's one thing I left back in junior high..."

I always think to myself what could've been, or what should've been if things would've gone a different way. If I could've been different...

"Luz!" My thoughts were interrupted as my friends came walking up to my desk.

"Who're you talking to?" My friend, Gus asked me. Huh, I didn't realize I was talking out loud.

"Uh, no one!" I awkwardly laugh, "Did you have practice again this morning?"

"Yep!" Gus excitedly exclaims. He is one of the star players for the school's basketball team. "Why don't you quit waffling around and pick something? Recruitment is gonna end soon!"

"Yeah, I know, but..."

"How about the track and field club?" My other friend, Willow, asks.

"I'm thinking about that one, but I'm not sure yet. And there's also hand ball and badminton...and it's hard to give up the chance at a culture club while in high school..." I start rambling about all the clubs I could join.

Willow gives me a confused look, "You're really indecisive-"

"Then come to the basketball club!" Gus interrupts.

"I'm not really good with sports." I've never been the athletic type.

"Hey, Noceda! Luz Noceda!" Our teacher interrupts, "If you haven't decided on a club yet, how about the student council?"

"Huh? The student council?" I never thought about that. The student council of our school is pretty much made up of upperclassmen, I've never heard about a freshman joining.

"That seems kinda boring..." Gus blurts out, I cover his mouth with my hand.

"Haha, you'd be surprised to learn it's not." The teacher smiled, "Our student council is relatively active, and I believe it can be just as fun as the clubs."

"Student council, huh?" Maybe if I could get a view of it, I could give it some thought. "Could I observe a meeting, please?"

"So you're interested, then? Great! You'll be a huge help!" He exclaims. What does he mean by "huge help"?

"The student council elections are coming up and I was looking for students who could help with that."

Elections?! I'm not really cut out for this type of stuff, but I already asked if I could observe, and I didn't want to let him down. So I sat there, regretting my decision.

---

"I think I got tricked into doing this..." I looked down at my map as I walked down the path towards the student council's headquarters. "Well, I guess it's alright since I was curious anyway."

They said the student council room was near here, but the woods seem like a very strange place for it to be. Jeez, where is-

"I'm sorry for calling you out here." I overhear a boy talking around the corner from a wall I was standing near. I peak my head around the wall and hide behind the tall leafs. I can't see very much behind these leaves, but I can see a girl with long green hair with a brown tip at the top and small parts around the sides, and a rather tall boy with brown hair with his head down.

"Amity Blight! Will...will you...will you please go out with me?!" He nervously yells.

I quickly put my head behind the wall, confused and surprised. I'm not even the one being confessed to, yet sweat is dripping down my cheek. I've never seen a confession unfold before.

"I love you!" He yells once again.

There was a long silence. After I heard that sentence, I immediately thought I knew what would come next.

"I'm sorry. I won't go out with you."

But it didn't.

She rejected him.

I peaked my head back around the corner of the thick wall.

"I see...figured. You and I don't suit each other at all-"

He's interrupted by the girl, "Don't say that! You shouldn't put yourself down so harshly."

My eyes glistened as I looked so deeply into her eyes. She didn't see me, but I stared at her. It's like I had felt an instant connection with those hazel shaded eyes.

"It's just that...no matter who confesses to me, I don't feel the need to go out with anyone." Those words. Her words seem to hit me close to home. Too close for my liking.

She waved goodbye to the boy as he droopily walked off. I could hear her sigh as she bounced on her feet and turned my direction.

"Is someone there?" She walked over. How did she know?!

"Gahhh! I'm sorry! I- I didn't mean to eavesdrop! I couldn't bring my-myself to interrupt!" I put my hands together and apologized. Upperclassmen are so intimidating...I'm a stuttering mess right now.

My apologetic rambling is interrupted by a finger being placed in front of my face. This time, she was the one to stare at me.

"Keep this a secret, will you?" She retreated her finger and placed it on her lips.

"Huh? O-of course!" I stuttered.

"Are you a freshman? What are you doing out here?" She smiled at me.

"Oh, I was looking for the student council." I looked down at my map.

"I see." She said and started walking in the forward direction. I just stared at her as she walked. Eventually, she turned around and looked at me. I looked back at her with confusion. Then, she pointed in front of her and I knew she was trying to guide me towards the room.

As we walked, I observed her uniform and noted that she was a sophomore.

"So, are you the freshman who was supposed to come and help us today?" She turned to me. "Uh, yeah." I said.

We finally arrived outside of the student council room. She turned to face me and introduced herself, extending a hand, "I'm Amity Blight, president of Hexside's student council. Nice to meet you."

I stared, "Yeah...Nice to meet you too."
