I stepped vigorously out of the lift, my eyes sweeping the area for anything suspicious. Paranoia sparkled inside me at the brave yet terrifying move I had taken. Setting Harry up was the most significant thing I had ever done. He might have some massive psychos like him after me, lurking in the shadows awaiting their cue to jump and liquidate me. Or worse, they could be ambushing my loved ones right then without me having a clue.
I pushed the pessimistic thoughts to the back of my mind and lifted my head up to show confidence. Faith is an important thing, I had to believe I could do that otherwise nothing would occur.
The police station was full of hysteric people due to The Educator's arrival. Rumours spread fast I guess. It was like a huge cloud of stress had settled upon the area and everyone was moving in a frantic pace, not giving a crap if they knocked someone over on their way or needed to use the loo. Everything needed to be on point or the brutal criminal might dig his way out without anybody noticing. Did I mention he was sophisticated?
Did too.
My head turned as I crossed a throng of officers - eyes glued to a computer, intense looks in their awed eyes. I could hear their quiet voices trying to come up with a solution to whatever their issue was. I tightened my grip on my handbag and continued to steer my journey to my nightmare.
Room 405.
My eyes danced over the printed numbers above the numerous doors scattered along the corridor but unfortunately, I was far from reaching my destination.
"Miss Wilson, is it?" A virile voice cut me out of my search. My head whipped up to find a grown man standing before me, police uniform attached to his chubby body. Kindness and politeness shone in his brown eyes as he flashed me a small smile.
"That would be me, sir." I retorted.
He ran his hand through his half white hair and sighed quietly.
"You've been invited for an investigation, right?"
"I guess."
Relief washed over his face at my reply, I reckon he wasn't quite sure he was talking to the right person; the one who actually uncovered The Educator's identity. Couldn't blame him though, I literally looked like a fourteen year old when in reality, I was almost legal.
"Follow me please."
I frowned when he started walking in the other direction around. I wasn't even close. I speed walked after him as we rounded a corner, revealing more busy bobbies doing their duty. I despised crowded places; the air flies heavily in and out of your lungs and the risk of bumping into people rises drastically. Especially when my town's population wasn't huge, most of it was fields and rivers.
I mirrored the policeman's actions as he came to a stop in front of a big metal door, the number 405 etched on its right.
Fear suffocated my body at the realisation of what was about to take place. My feet were planted to the ground as if stopping me from getting into danger.
