Week Before Inter-High Prelims
The week had been hectic. Izumi, Komori, and Sakusa have all been slammed with practices, preparing for the Inter-High prelims. Usually, Michiko would wait for them, but practices had been running later. Throughout the week she would either go to her dorm or go out and get something to eat.
It was Friday, and Michiko decided to go to a cafe and finish some homework. She ordered an iced coffee to compliment her sleep-deprived self. I should really control my gaming habit, I can't afford to be this tired all of the time...
"Yo Matsuragi-chan~"
The small girl was brought out of her thoughts as she looked to the person calling out to her. She saw a familiar tall, bed-headed rooster guy followed by a shorter boy playing a video game.
"Oh! Kuroo and Kenma, it's been a while," Michiko smiled at the two, "What are you doing here?"
"Kuroo heard that they have good grilled mackerel here," Kenma answered as he focused on his game.
"Well, you guys can sit with me after you order. I want to catch up," she offered.
Kuroo went to order his food and drink while Kenma sat down next to Michiko. She turned to him to see what game he was playing. He had beaten the level he was on
"So how have you been Kenma?"
He set his console on the table and looked at her with a small smile, "I've been good."
Kuroo came back with a plate of grilled mackerel in one hand and a coffee in the other. He sat across from Michiko and Kenma.
"And how have you been Kuroo?"
"Mmm, I've been good-"
"What's not good is that your hair hasn't changed," Michiko deadpanned.
"O-oi! Leave my hair out of this conversation!"
"I can't help it. It's the first thing I notice whenever I would see you~"
Kuroo pouted as Kenma silently giggled with his eyes closed. The three had met during the summer at a volleyball camp (A/n: yes, Michiko used to play volleyball, but we'll get into that background info in later chapters). She bonded with the two through her love for volleyball and video games.
"Ne, Kuroo. You still owe me for that time I saved you from Nekomata-san, buy me an iced coffee please~"
Kuroo sighed, "Fine."
He got up to go order Michiko's drink. Unbeknownst to the three teenagers, a pair of eyes watched them from a distance through the window. Sakusa was on his way to Modoru Convenient Store. However, he noticed Michiko sitting at the cafe doing her homework.
She seemed to be concentrated but looked up as if someone was calling out to her. He saw a hand holding out a drink to her. Michiko smiled at the person while taking the drink. The said person was a tall guy with a bad case of bed head. The unfamiliar guy sat down across from Michiko and their lips moved as they struck a conversation with one another.
There was an unknown, yet unpleasant feeling growing in Sakusa's stomach. He wasn't sure why, but he felt as if he wanted to spray the guy's face with disinfectant. He wondered how close the two were. Sakusa shook his head as he left for his planned destination wanting to push down the troublesome feeling.
"Ah... we should probably get going Kenma," Kuroo said.
"Yeah. I should probably head back too Izumi might be worried about me," Michiko agreed.
The three stood up and walked out of the cafe. Sakusa was heading back to Itachiyama just as they were leaving. He saw a shorter boy playing a game walk out with them. The boys parted ways with Michiko and turned around. Sakusa saw their tracksuits. Nekoma...
"Oi, Shortie."
Michiko turns to see Sakusa walking towards her.
"Oh, hi Sakusa," she smiled gently.
"Were you planning on walking alone?"
"Heh. I was..." she then smiled sheepishly.
"Let's go," he said as he walked past her.
Michiko caught up with Sakusa. He seemed a little tired, or was that irritation? She didn't want to push it.
"Where were you coming from?" She asked curiously.
"I wanted Umeboshi, but I couldn't find you, so I went to Modoru to see if they had any, but they didn't," he pouts.
"Ah... Well, I can give you some when we get to my dorm," she said with a grin.
"Who were those guys?"
"Kenma and Kuroo? I met them at a volleyball camp when we were little."
"You played?" Sakusa raises an eyebrow at this newfound information.
"Yeah, a family friend of ours would train me, but I realized that I was better at analyzing players and games. Besides, I was more so playing because it was fun."
Sakusa hummed at her explanation. He was definitely surprised that the small girl used to play the sport that he loves so much.
"You should become our manager," he declared.
"But you already have one," she answered surprised at his sudden demand.
"She's a third year and has been looking for someone to take her place when she graduates."
"You should also come watch us at the Inter-High prelims," he said with a hint of hope.
"I think I will," she replied with a smile.
"I'll ask coach to see if you could help out."
"On one condition," Sakusa paused as she interjected, "I get to wear one of your jerseys~"
Sakusa was surprised, but a few seconds later he felt a burst of pride. The small girl is full of surprises. Everyone knew that no one was to touch anything of Sakusa's especially when it came to his tracksuit and volleyball uniform. However, in this instance, he was absolutely delighted to lend Michiko his jersey and didn't even give it a second thought.
"I'll come by your dorm tomorrow and give you one of my old jerseys from last year," he said with a small smile.
