Soft footsteps echoed in the seemingly dead airport

Soft footsteps echoed in the seemingly dead airport. It was almost midnight. Michiko's father, Izumi, Komori, and Sakusa all went together to see her off. Sakusa was truly grateful that the airport was not bustling and busy like usual. He and the small girl next to him held each other's hands.

They wanted to prolong the physical connection up until the very minute she had to truly leave. The tall ace felt a mix of weird feelings. He was very happy for Michiko, but at the same time, he was already yearning for her. And yet, he knew she would return to him. She always did.

So maybe he didn't have to worry too much. But he still couldn't help but think that the distance and time away from one another could create an invisible wedge between the two. Sakusa knew for sure that there was no one else for him. Michiko was the only one who understood him. She was the one to always think about him like no other.

But what about Michiko? Was he the only one for her? Would he be the only one for her while she's away? He knew it was selfish to want Michiko to only want him, but the two had built a special bond, and it was something he didn't want to lose.

He glanced down at the small girl. She looked tired as she rolled her suitcase. She was in sweatpants and one of his hoodies. Cute. The hoodie could have been a dress if she wanted it to be. The small girl looked up at the tall ace and gave a tired smile. Yeah, he was really going to miss her. They had arrived at her gate. Michiko turned to hug everyone.

"Make sure to text or call me whenever you have the time," Izumi said as she started to tear up, "you'll always be the Shrek to my Donkey."

"I'll miss you too Izu," Michiko chuckled, "I'll be back before you know it."

"Thanks for proving that Sakusa wasn't a robot," Komori jokingly said.

Sakusa flicked his cousin's forehead making everyone laugh.

"I am going to miss you, my favorite child," crocodile tears spilled from her father's eyes.

"I am going to miss you too, dad," Michiko hugged him.

"Do you really have to go," he whined like a child.

"Daaaad. You're the one who made the deal."

"I know! But you're finally growing up! I don't know if I'm ready to let you go," her father wailed.

"I'll be fine dad," she reassured him with a smile, "besides we have family in Brazil, so I won't be alone."

Michiko finally turned to Sakusa. They looked into each other's eyes. Michiko could see the sadness in his eyes. It was the same sadness when she had told him she was attending a different high school. She gently took Sakusa's hands into her smaller ones. Even with his mask on, Michiko could see the slight uplift in the corner of his eyes.

Tears started to form in her eyes, but before they could spill, she pulled the tall ace into a hug, burying her face into his chest. He wrapped his arms around her and settled his chin on the top of her head. Maybe if she could stop the tears from falling, she could stop time and stay in his embrace forever.
