The tall ace had woken way earlier than the girl he cradled in his arms. He looked at the clock sitting on his nightstand. 5:37 am. Shit. Sakusa was restless after Michiko telling him of her plans to leave for Brazil.

As the curly-headed boy laid there, no longer feeling sleepy, his thoughts drifted back to the times during his and Michiko's early days of knowing one another. Particularly, the memories of Michiko after their first encounter back in their third year of middle school.

Ever since that time he had met the short, freckled girl, Sakusa could not stop thinking about her. He felt the urge to want to see her, but he didn't know why. While the curly-headed boy had people vying for his attention and crushed on him, Sakusa never really found interest in anyone romantically.

One day during school, Sakusa found his cousin conversing with a girl that he recognized to be friends with the very girl he couldn't take his mind off. What is this feeling? The girl, Izumi, then waved off leaving Komori a blushing mess.

"Oi."

Komori turned to find his cousin and smiled, "Oh, hey Sakusa!"

"Who was that?" Sakusa asked with a straight face.

"That was Nakanishi-chan," Komori looked away as a blush came back.

Sakusa looked to the retreating form of the girl that made his cousin so flustered. His eyes moved to someone that seemed like they were waiting. It was her. The one who had given hand sanitizer when he had run out. The first one to have ever calmed his nerves and anxieties.

The smaller girl had a wide smile plastered on her face as she found her best friend approaching her. For some reason, his heart started to beat faster at the sight. He didn't understand it, and it sort of irritated him.

"Wait, isn't that the girl who you talked to that one day?" Komori was referring to the smaller girl that Izumi was approaching.

The curly-headed boy abruptly walked away making Komori trail behind him as they head back to their class. Sakusa didn't answer, neither denying nor confirming his cousin's question. Komori raised an eyebrow but wasn't surprised at Sakusa's attitude. The young libero noticed how the curly-headed boy's ears were red, and he gave an all-knowing smile.

Another time Sakusa found himself unknowingly pine for the short girl, was after practice when she had walked into the gym to meet up with her best friend.

He was all sweaty from the constant jumping and running, and his heart rate seemingly hitched faster once he saw her. Sakusa kept his head down as he sat on the bench taking his volleyball shoes off.

His fingers skillfully untied the lace of his left shoe, but his mind and insides were churning. He just could not understand this feeling. It was pleasant, but at the same time, it was so unfamiliar that it felt like an intruding germ he wanted to escape from.
