"Cousin Eugene!" (Y/n) hiked up her (f/c) dress and ran full speed towards the startled Captain of the guards. Before he had any time to respond, he was aggressively embraced by the excited Duchess."This Kingdom is crazy." Weselton looked back in disgust, then disappeared behind the corner.
"I'm guessing Varian found my cousin." Eugene mused. (Y/n) pulled back and had a huge grin plastered on her face.
"It's so good to finally meet you!" she pulled back and spoke. Then a broad figure emerged from behind them, and (Y/n) gasped. "Uncle Edmund?" she questioned, hesitant to hug another wrong person like earlier.
"Aha! The young Duchess did not wander into the woods and get eaten by ravenous wolves as I had previously suspected!" Edmund announced loudly, as (Y/n)'s face dropped.
"He's spent a long time alone, you learn to ignore it after a while." Eugene explained as the (h/c) girl nodded. Then her attention turned to the Princess standing beside her cousin.
"Oh my goodness, your highness I have so looked forward to meeting you!" she said in awe, "I've heard so much about your story. You are incredible!" (Y/n) fan-girled.
"I'm so happy that Eugene has a cousin, it's so exciting to meet you! Oh, and call me Rapunzel." the beautiful Princess smiled warmly, giving (Y/n) a tight hug.
Meanwhile, Varian stood awkwardly behind the reunion. The more they chatted, the more out of place he felt. Then finally, he decided to just turn around and walk away. It wasn't until after he had left, someone mentioned his name.
"It was a bit stressful when nobody showed up when the boat arrived, but thankfully Varian was there to show me the-" (Y/n) stopped mid-sentence as she turned to see her new friend had vanished from the hallway. "Oh he left..." her voice sounded dissapointed in the revelation.
"Varian's probably just busy with a new invention or something, I wouldn't worry about it." Eugene mentioned nonchalantly as he noticed the frown on his cousin's face.
"(Y/n) you must be starving, come into the dinning room. We have loads of food on the table still!" Rapunzel took her hand and the group walked into the lavish room together to continue their conversation, and eat something. But (Y/n) gave one last wistful glace over her shoulder, wishing for someone else to join them...

Varian traipsed his way back to his lab in the palace. His hands shoved in his pockets and his eyes to the ground. He pushed open the doors and slumped down onto a seat by a desk full of notes and blueprints. A chubby raccoon gave a yawn and a stretch when it heard his friend had arrived.
"Ruddiger, why am I like this?" Varian sighed and turned to his drowsy pal. Ruddiger just stared at him, waiting for him to expand on his remark. "A lady-in-waiting was somewhat realistic, but a Duchess? I would never have a shot with her." the messy-haired teen placed his face in his hands. He sat like this for 20 seconds, until he released a strange sound in frustration.
"Ghhhhhhuuuuuuuuuhhhhh..." he lowered his hands and grabbed Ruddiger's face, holding it close to his. "Cinnamon!" he exclaimed, "she put cinnamon on it!" the raccoon widened his eyes as he had no clue what Varian was referring to.
"Most people haven't even heard of cinnamon. I got it specially imported from a tradesman, and gave it to Uncle Monty so I could always order it there..." he placed Ruddiger back down and sighed. "But she's a Duchess, and I'm me..." he closed his eyes deep in thought. Somehow, he managed to doze off while he had his head down. It must've been an extremely exhausting day for the dark haired teen. However, a noise eventually stirred him awake.
*Knock knock*
"Huh?" Varian's face shot up, hair even messier than normal. He rubbed his eyes and stood up clumsily, knocking over a few things. He finally managed to open the door, and when he did there was nobody to be found. Only a small note on the ground. He picked it up wearily and started to read:
"Dear Varian, I hope you are resting after today - I'm sure wandering around town searching for me was exhausting.
I wanted to thank you for being so kind and helpful today, and for being a friend to me.
Maybe we will cross paths again soon?
From (Y/n) (L/n)."
Varian's heart beat out of his chest as he read the words on the page. But the feelings he had were more than just puppy love; there was dread and fear. His eyes trailed away from the page and onto the floor, as he thought. He thought about the pain of feeling something towards someone, and them not feeling the same way. It hurt him. So, Varian crumbled the page and tossed it in the waste bin on the inside of his lab.
"It's never going to happen." he said aloud to himself, and he turned and shut the door. Little did he know that he wasn't alone in the dark hallway. The sender of the note had been hiding behind the corner, to see if he would get it alright. (Y/n)'s face fell and her lip quivered when she heard his remark. Her mind jumped to the worst conclusion; he couldn't stand her.
-----------
I'm sorry these chapters are so terrible! I'm writing this in-between holiday celebrations and I'm so tired and I ate so much food. I think I'll keep this one going to new years, then end it in a bit of a finale. Only I'll just do a time skip from the time (Y/n) spends in Corona. So in-between now and new years, I'll write some other oneshots. Do any of you have any cool ideas?? I'd love to hear!!! Thank you for reading, and thanks for being super duper 🌟🌟🌟
