"Horace!" Edmund bellowed out as he stepped into the lounge room of the Palace. The room was decorated beautifully with pine garlands, spruce trees lit with candles and an aroma of cinnamon wafted through the air.

"I'm not responding unless you call me by my name." the irritated brunette folded his arms and tapped his foot impatiently.

"Ah yes, Eugene." the burley man corrected himself and stepped closer to the crackling fireplace where his son stood.

"Well, thank you Father dearest. To what do I owe this pleasure?" Eugene eased his composure and faced the ruler of the Dark Kingdom.

"I must thank your beloved for letting me stay here this holiday season, it has been many a-year since I have spent time with people at Christmas." Edmund proclaimed with a grin, picking up a sugar cookie and biting into it. Rapunzel smiled warmly in return to his thankfulness.

"Aw, we love having you here your Majesty." she said while moving closer to join the conversation.

"I know, I am excellent company!" Edmund said merrily, causing the Princess to give a quiet giggle at his remark.

"Is that all? Just a thank you?" Eugene raised an eyebrow, taking a sugar cookie shaped like a heart for himself.

"Oh no, there's more." the King rubbed his hands together, "I cannot wait to see the reaction on my dear son's face when I tell him his Mother's sister's offspring from (K/n) will be visiting Corona for Christmas..." he said out-loud as Rapunzel gasped and Eugene coughed as he almost chocked on the cookie he was chewing on.

"A cousin?!" the pair asked in unison; the Princess with a smile, and Eugene in shock.

"How did you know?" Edmund furrowed his brows in confusion, as if he didn't just say his surprise announcement out-loud. Eugene placed a hand over his face in frustration.

"That is so exciting!" Rapunzel squealed, "Although I kind of wish you told me a little earlier so we could get a room prepared and all." she mumbled to herself while looking away.

"When does he get here?" Eugene responded, still coming to terms with the fact that he had more family he didn't know about.

"I think you mean 'when does she get here', and her ship arrives in Corona today at 2pm!" the King proclaimed as Rapunzel and Eugene's faced dropped.

"It's almost 5pm..." the Princess revealed with fear on her face. Edmund opened his mouth to correct her, but the small grandfather clock on the mantle piece solidified Rapunzel's statement.

"It seems as though my timekeeping skills are not up to par." he stared into the distance as the couple in front of him looked at each other in confusion.

"Well, I guess we have to go and find a lost family member in the busy streets of Corona, 4 days before Christmas, when we have no idea what she looks like, or what her name is..." Eugene babbled as he started to worry for his long lost cousin's well-being.

"Her name is Duchess (Y/n) (L/n) of the wonderful Kingdom of (K/n)!" the King interjected.

"Great, she's a Duchess." the ex-thief said with sarcasm, throwing his arms into the air, "If she gets lost and a war starts, then I'm blaming you pal." he complained.

"But we can't go to find her, we have dinner with the young Duke visiting from Weaslton. If we don't make a good impression then we won't be able to sign the Kingdom treaty." Rapunzel reminded her boyfriend.

"What about you Eddy, can you go find (Y/n)?" Eugene turned to the King who was chomping away on his 7th sugar cookie.

"I mwas inbited to de dimmer also, dis moment is crushal for de Dark Kimgdom's reimvemtiom im sociedy." he mumbled with a full mouth, but then swallowed. "It's hard to bring a Kingdom back from total desolation." Edmund responded clearly.

"We can't just leave her out there alone..." Rapunzel placed a hand to her temple and tried to think. Just as soon as she did, a pair of clunky footsteps entered the room, followed by a voice.

"Princess, I was drawing up some blueprints for the self-turning turkey roaster that you requested and it all seems perfectly feasible." the disorderly teenager waltzed into the room, face still stuck in a piece of parchment with scribbles all over it. When he finally looked up, he threw a nervous smile at Edmund. "Oh, hello your Majesty." he pulled the pair of scratched goggled off of his eyes and onto his messy black hair.

"Varian!" Eugene and Rapunzel exclaimed at the same time. However, the freckled boy seemed a little disconcerted by their enthusiasm.

"Should I be worried?" He rolled up the parchment and held it tightly.

"Why, this young fellow would be the perfect escort for the Duchess, I should definitely suggest my incredible idea to Horace." Edmund thought out-loud, and Varian frowned in confusion.

"Duchess?-" he began to question.

"Hey ahaha, don't mind him." Eugene swooped in and stepped closer to to the teenager. "You know what buddy, today is your lucky day! You wanna know why?"

"I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little scared." Varian admitted.

"Being scared is not what team awesome does." Eugene's expression turned deathly serious. "Anyways, how would you like to take a trip into town and go on a little hunt for my dear cousin (Y/n) from (K/n)?"

"I didn't know you had a cousin?" Varian said, bemused.

"Yeah well neither did I till 5 minutes ago." Eugene looked over at his father with slight annoyance, but then turned his attention back to his friend. "Listen, we all have to go to this political dinner right now, and my cousin has aparantly been wandering around the streets of Corona since 2pm - do you think you could just ask around and see if you can find a Duchess wandering about town?" he asked sincerely. Varian looked at him and thought about it.

"Alright, I'll do it for team awesome." He placed the blueprint on the ground beside the mantle piece and nodded.

"Your kindness will not go unrewarded my good child, you will be blessed with many sugar-cookies when you return." Edmund placed two hands on Varian's shoulders and spoke triumphantly. Suddenly, the bell of the clock struck 5.

"The dinner! We have to go." Rapunzel gasped while taking Eugene's hand. "Thank you so much Varian, we owe you a hundred." she thanked the freckled fella.

"Oh don't worry about it, I'm sure I'll find her in no time."
