Kayla's POV
"Good morning, Kayla," a voice greets me. I almost activate my self defense mode, then recognize the voice of Sungchan.
"Good night, Sungchan," I respond, before realizing what I just said. My brain really is overworked right now. I don't even have control over my own words.
Soon, he leaves, and I hear him scream "IS THAT A BUS?" in the distance. I think about the giant vehicle that I rented and shake my head at all of the work I accomplished.

"And... There!" I say, shutting down the computer for the last time. My responsibilities are all gone. I'm officially a free woman.
"You're done?" Taeyong asks, appearing in the door of the office.
"Yeah, finally," I reply, stretching my arms and blinking a few times to clear my mind.
"Everything is in the bus," he informs me.
"Alright, let's go," I respond.

"You good, Kayla?" the voice of Jisung asks from next to me, jolting me out of my thoughts.
"Mhm," I reply, looking back at the house I grew up in for the last time. We've done a final sweep of the house five times and are now all in the bus.
"Are you going to miss this life?" Sungchan questions.
"Maybe a tiny bit, but I'm not going back on my decision," I respond, starting the bus.
"It feels funny driving off at 4 in the morning, with nobody even knowing where we are," Jeno remarks.
"Yeah, it's going to be a few hours until my family realizes that I'm actually gone for good," I laugh. "It's fine, though, somebody is going to break the news to them later today."
I mentally make a note to thank all of the people who were sympathetic and took their share of my responsibilities so I could be free.

"The boarding for flight 127 to Seoul, South Korea, is now open. Please get your tickets and personal belongings ready and board the plane."
I pick up my bag and enter the plane with NCT. We all take our seats and get ready for the long flight ahead. I'm leaving America, and I might never return.

"We're almost at the dorm!" one of NCT's managers in Korea tells us. "You'd better fill us in on everything once you get rested up."
I smile and stroke one of my cats through her crate. It's already been decided that I'm staying with NCT for a while until we figure things out.
Soon, everyone starts departing and I head up to the 10th floor dorm along with the 10th floor residents. We had a whole competition to see where I would stay, and they won.
"Welcome to our dorm!" Yuta announces, throwing the door open.
"Hey, Auntie, we're back!" Mark adds. I remember that they have an auntie and glance up to greet her.
There's no way.
There, standing in front of me, is my mother. Not my biological mother, but the Korean woman whom I consider to be my mom is right in front of me.
"Mom?" I whisper in disbelief.
"Kayla?" she gasps in surprise.
I run to her and throw my arms around her while everyone else watches in confusion, trying to put the pieces together.
"Your Auntie is the mom I was telling you all about," I explain as they all nod in understanding.
"I can't believe you're here, all grown up now. I'm so sorry that I had to leave, my mother got sick and I just never went back to LA," she explains guiltily.
"It's okay! I can't believe you're here, either!" I respond happily.
As I start to unpack my things in my new room, I recall everything I went through to get here. But hard work always pays off, doesn't it?
Maybe I'll be a producer. Or a choreographer. Or an idol. I can feel that this is the place I was destined to stay in.
NCT came into my life at just the right time to Light It Up.
And I couldn't ask for anything better.
