LOCKING myself up in my room seemed a lot easier when I actually did it. As if a faucet had been left on, my tears never finished flowing.

So many people died that night. All of the people I loved were gone, already making their way to the afterlife.

Days had gone by ever since I last ate, but I never bothered to get out and get food. Everything reminded me of them.

"Come on, you haven't lived if you haven't tasted my sakura mochi!"

"Ara ara~ Maybe you need a longer skirt, Mila-san."

"I really don't get why Kaburumaru likes you so much."

"Sanemi nii-chan doesn't really hate you, it's just how his personality is, I promise! He'll warm up to you soon enough."

"Thank you for teaching a demon like me the ways of medicine, Mila-san."

"Can you tell me what a cloud is again, Mila?"

I was so drowning in misery that Kanao had to be the one to break my door down — literally — despite her having major wounds. Her left eye was now blind because of her Scarlet Spider Lily Eyes, and Kaburumaru — Iguro-san's albino snake — had been handed down to her.

"Mila, you need to stop," Kanao began as she sat down at the foot of my bed. "Please, eat. You're being so — "

"So what? So what, Kanao?" I knew I was lashing out, but it felt good to do so. All the bottled up feelings inside of me were slowly being tossed out, one by one. "I...I promised Mitsuri she'd see me a Love Hashira when she retired. Muichiro was the only person I've ever romantically loved. And now they're both gone."

Kanao bit her lip, and she didn't speak for a few moments. "I lost my master too, you know. So did the Corps, who lost the Hashiras they looked up to the most."
