Chapter 23

Hot. It was so damn hot.
A perfect day to go cool down at the Hawkins pool. And so Will, Dustin, Lucas and Max decided to meet up there. They were having fun chatting with their feet in the cool water.
However Mike Wheeler wasn't there, and Will was secretly relieved because of that.
The day before he had asked Dustin if he wanted to hang out at the pool and if he could invite Lucas and Max with them. The curly boy hadn't questioned him if he should ask Mike too, but Lucas did. Fortunately when he asked for Mike, Max answered with:
"Why do you need him to be here? So you can watch him kiss all over Eleven? So gross", and the small group had all laughed.

Will's eyes wandered from one playing child to another. He was kind of hoping that Mike told him the truth on their last meeting and he was most likely to meet Jennifer here. Not that he would actually talk to her right away. He was too shy for that. He just wanted to know if she would hang out here and with who. She might already have a boyfriend or something...

"LUKASSS NOOO"
A shriek and the sound of a loud splash filled Will's ears. He turned his head to the sound and saw Max furiously looking at her boyfriend who had just pushed her into the pool.
Then she did something weird.

"Ouch ahh", she smashed both her hands on her left eye, "oh my god it hurts so much"

"What? What's wrong Max?", Lukas asked worried. She swam towards him at the surface. "I think I got water in my eye, auwhh it really hurts I can't open it", she said in a suffering tone.

"Lemme see", Lukas took one of her hands that were covering her eye. But then Max' other hand left her eye and reached out to Lukas' arm. She pulled as hard as she could and from one moment to another, Lukas was now also in the pool with a laughing Max next to him.

"I am so killing you", he hissed at her and started splashing water on her.
Will smiled at the pair.
They are one for another, he thought.

"I wish Suzie was here now", Dustin suddenly spoke, he too was watching the two having fun.
The smaller boy nodded and continued observing everything that was going on at the pool.

"Wait..."

"Hm?", Will looked up at Dustin. The day had reached its maximum temperature now and everyone in Hawkins was either wet of sweat or of water to cool down. The party was still at the pool, but they were planning on leaving soon.

"No it can't be", Dustin said, staring mouth opened at something behind Will.

"Uh do you mind telling me, Dustin?", Will asked slightly annoyed.

He casually pointed at "the thing" behind Will, his eyes followed the direction of Dustin's finger.

"Is that... Jennifer?!"

Will couldn't believe what his eyes were whitnessing. No way that was the same girl he had spent his classes with. Jeniffer got taller, prettier and didn't wear braces anymore. She was a whole other person.
Did she already look like that before summer started?
Will never really paid attention to her so he wasn't sure if the girl's glowup was recent or not.
But he was sure about one thing:
this girl was way out of his league, no possible girlfriend material!
Which Will didn't mind that much. He just... wasn't attracted to her, despite her beauty glow up.

"She has changed a lot" he said, turning his gaze back to Dustin.

"You tell me..." he responded, still looking at her. Then his face expression changed in a more concerning look. "What she's coming towards us-"

"Huh-" Will managed to say before a soft voice interrupted him.

"Excuse me, have you seen a girl named Stacy, my friend?"
