"Please turn off all your cell phones, handhelds, and any other communication devices, and leave them on the table right there," L spoke, pointing to a small table in the corner of the room. (Y/n) removed her cell phone from her coat pocket and was about to set it down when Aizawa let out an enraged groan. "What, do you think we're going to be using our cellphones during this meeting to leak information?" he questioned angrily. "Just do as he says," Soichiro returned, setting his phone on the table.

"I realize he's been cautious from the very beginning, but I still can't tell if he trusts us or not," Matsuda sighed, setting his phone down alongside the others.

"I mean, he did show us his face, didn't he?" (Y/n) replied, trying to give L the benefit of the doubt.

As the task force entered the room L had walked into, Matsuda gasped. (Y/n) made her way to the front to see what startled him, only to find L sitting in what looked to be the most uncomfortable position imaginable. Both of his feet were planted on the chair, his upper body hunched over his legs. (Y/n) couldn't help but stare. L was truly an odd man.

"Please," L said, "make yourselves comfortable." (Y/n), alongside the rest of the task force members, took a seat. She was curious as to why L sat the way he did. That couldn't be comfortable, could it?

"Excuse me, L?" Matsuda started to speak.

"From now on I'll have to ask that you stop calling me 'L'. It's 'Ryuzaki' now, just to be safe."

"Uh, okay, Ryuzaki," he continued, "If we know that he needs a name and a face to kill, couldn't we cut down on the number of victims by keeping criminals' names from the news?"

"If we do that, we'll only be putting the general public at risk."

"The general public?" Ukita chimed in.

"Why?" Aizawa added, wanting an answer as to why Kira would kill innocent people.

"Kira is childish, and he hates losing," L said, taking another sip of tea.

"But how do you..." Matsuda started before L cut him off

"Well, I'm also childish and I hate to lose. That's how I know."

(Y/n) couldn't help but chuckle a little. She had only known Ryuzaki, or rather L, for about an hour now, but she had a feeling he was going to be an interesting co-worker. She had a decent analysis of what L's persona was, but she had no idea who he truly was. (Y/n) was excellent at reading people, but L was an anomaly that she just couldn't figure out.

It was unusual for her to be so puzzled by a human being with nearly everything he did. The way he sits, speaks, acts, and shows emotion or lack thereof were all new to her and she just couldn't figure him out.

(Y/n) snapped back to reality when L began speaking once again.

"I tried to provoke Kira with that broadcast. As soon as I said we knew he was in the Kanto region, in defiance, he made sure his next victims came from within Japan as if to say 'what are you gonna do about it."

L took another sip of tea before continuing. "He met each of my challenges head-on, and he's never missed an opportunity to return the favor. Now, what do you think would happen if we tried to use media restrictions to hide criminals from someone like that?

"Hmm. 'If you choose to withhold the names of your worst criminals, I'll kill petty criminals or the innocent. I'm holding the whole world hostage, so who's it gonna be? I'm not the evil one here, but all those who oppose me by hiding criminals? You are truly evil.' That's exactly how Kira thinks. In any case, let's look at another way we can use the media to draw him out.
