Those seven words rang in (Y/n)'s ears for what seemed like ages but in reality, was only a few seconds; she felt herself taking a step forward and falling into his arms lovingly. She buried her head in the detective's chest before tilting her neck up to look at him.The girl was still in shock after hearing L's question. She hadn't known the boy for the longest time but thinking back to when she first met him, he was emotionless cold-hearted — no room for love whatsoever. Seeing him now, however, his heart had finally thawed.
In all honesty, getting to know the raven-haired detective was the thing she enjoyed most about the Kira investigation. Sure, before Light being the infamous killer was confirmed, she enjoyed the mystery of it all. Now, however, she was standing before the detective, a beautiful sunset behind the pair, faced with a question that she didn't know the answer to.
Answering with a yes was the obvious choice; after all, (Y/n) could admit she was falling for the detective and she was falling hard. The two of them had shared so many memories — some positive, some negative and all of those memories are what led up to the present moment the young woman found herself in and although L unexpectedly confessed his feelings for (Y/n), admitting he loved her, she had never gotten the courage to say those three words back.
Saying no, however, would be the smart choice; Light had revealed his identity to her and she was sure it wouldn't be long before she was killed and possibly manipulated into taking L with her. It was a difficult decision for the girl: one that could cost her both of their lives.
"L—" she mumbled, thinking about her two choices. She shifted closer to the messy-haired detective and leaned in to peck his lips. "Of course I want to, L, but—"

The two found themselves back at headquarters, having not said a word to the other on their walk back. The others were already on the couches positioned in the center of the room.
"Sorry we're late," L muttered, crouching down on a nearby chair while motioning for (Y/n) to do the same, "(Y/n) and I were investigating something." The young girl took a seat next to the raven-haired boy and prepared herself for the conversation that awaited.
"Don't forget what we came here for," Aizawa spoke sternly, shifting slightly in his seat. His brow was furrowed — in anger or frustration, the girl couldn't tell, but it frightened her a little. Even though she's been a part of the task force for quite a while, she still got anxious when any of the others seemed upset.
"Regarding Naomi Misora's disappearance, shouldn't we open an investigation into this matter?" Aizawa continued. (Y/n) forgot about the disappearance of the former FBI agent for just a split second, and now knew that Light was most likely behind it.
She probably figured out who he was.
The young girl shook the unsettling thoughts of what could've happened to Misora out of her head and subconsciously was worried that the same may happen to her. Shuddering, she crossed her arms in a poor attempt to comfort herself. "Love, calm yourself," L whispered, subtly grazing his thumb up and down her arm.
That was the first time he had spoken to her since what happened while they were out; (Y/n) was torn by her decision, but ultimately did what would make her happy. She felt selfish, but she said yes to the boy as long as he promised to keep their relationship confidential.
"If we do, Aizawa, it should be coordinated separately from the Kira case," he continued the conversation, "also we'll have to use police sketches instead of actual photos."
"We're talking about someone who's been missing for four months already," Mogi chimed in, "chances are she's probably dead."
"If you're right about that, I find it odd that we haven't found her body yet. If we did, it might provide us with some much-needed physical evidence—" L was interrupted by Watari entering the room, stating that Sakura TV was broadcasting something odd.
"Turn on the TV," the pale-skinned detective sputtered. Aizawa frantically grabbed the remote and switched the television to Sakura TV.
"I assure you that this is not a hoax and that Sakura TV is not airing this tape for the purposes of sensationalism..."
The television droned on for what seemed like ages. The talk of "Kira's hostages" bored (Y/n); she was smart enough to know that Light wouldn't send anything to the television station — it would be too risky. Too stupid.
"Four days ago, our program director here at Sakura TV received four tapes. After thorough examination, there can be no doubt that they're from Kira himself."
"Bullshit they are," the girl muttered under her breath, receiving a small, barely visible turn of the head from her detective partner.
"The first tape we received contained a prediction regarding the rime of death of two suspected criminals who recently have been arrested. And as predicted, at that exact time that Kira had specified, both men died suddenly of heart attacks yesterday."
Sakura TV aired the second tape from the supposed Kira, which suggested they change the channel to Taiyo TV to witness the death of the news anchor. "Change it!" L yelled to whoever had the remote. The only sight on the TV was the staff frantically running to aid the news anchor, who appeared to be dead.
"This is low, even for Kira. He's not even a criminal!" (Y/n) yelled in frustration.
"Change the channel back," L said sternly, "I need you to bring up another TV Watari — no, make it two."
The tape of Kira began speaking of his next victim: one who defied him. L was shouting to change the channel to 24 while everyone in headquarters began to panic.
One click of the remote and the next scene was another dead news anchor. (Y/n) looked away, having seen enough death for one day. She didn't like it whatsoever.
"I can't watch this anymore," (Y/n) whimpered, exiting the room swiftly and silently.
"(Y/n)—" the detective reached for the girl just seconds too late. She was already gone.
"Damn it," he mumbled to himself before yelling at those who remained in the room, "stop this broadcast! We can't let him finish! Please do whatever you can — I'll handle (Y/n)."
L rose from his chair and set his feet flat on the ground before walking away to the bedroom, where he hoped the young girl would be.
