Of course, she was the first one to be interviewed. (Y/n) did not doubt in her mind that L had purposefully chosen her to go first just to irritate her. The feeling that he didn't exactly care for her had been strong from the beginning, but now it was almost positively confirmed by this gesture. There was something about L that made (Y/n) truly want to get to know him, yet in her mind, she had no desire to do so. These conflicted feelings resulted in a deep annoyance for the detective.

Without saying a word, L walked to the next room over and shut the door once (Y/n) had entered. It hadn't been the excruciatingly painful silence that she noticed first but rather how terrible the man's posture was. "You know you should probably go see a chiropractor," (Y/n) quipped, breaking the silence in the room, "your posture is appalling."

L blinked, dumbfounded that one of his investigators had brought it up. (Y/n)'s lips formed the slightest smirk for catching him off guard. They both sat down on the couch that was in the room, keeping their distance as it was the only seat in the room. "Let's begin," L said, completely ignoring the question.

"What reason do I have to believe you're not Kira?" L asked in his normal, monotone voice. He had no reason to believe the girl was Kira, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

"Straight to the point, huh?" she stated, "I'll only answer if you can answer a few questions for me, too."

He looked at the girl once more, studying her: the way she sat, the way she spoke, her facial features. L had never worked with a girl as stubborn and independent as she was. He was always the one giving orders and asking questions, so for someone to even consider asking him about himself was intriguing indeed. She had the traits of Kira, but he had absolutely no reason to believe she was the murderer. In fact, he'd bet anything on it in an instant. After a few more minutes of analyzing and consideration, L finally gave in.

"Fine," he mumbled in a voice so low (Y/n) could barely even hear it, "answer my question and I'll allow you to ask yours."

She nodded and looked him in the eyes while answering.

"I'll admit that I do have some traits of a Kira persona: I prefer to work alone, I'm not very trusting, I'm smart, and I absolutely hate losing. That much is clear. But considering you're the world's best detective, you could already tell, couldn't you?"

"Don't bribe me with flattery, (Y/n)."

"Don't be too full of yourself, detective. I'm simply stating what I've been told. Now, let me continue, L. Although I have the personality traits of someone who could be Kira, two things separate me from him. The first reason is that I actually have decent morals and no matter how bad a crime someone has committed, I wouldn't kill them to 'make things right'

"People always say 'an eye for an eye' but in this case, if someone were to commit a murder and get caught, they'd learn their lesson real quick once they're sentenced to life in jail, whereas if they die they just die. Nothing more nothing less.

"The second thing that separates me from Kira is my lack of arrogance. I am confident in my abilities, yes, but I don't go as far as to believe I'm greater than anyone else. With Kira, what we're dealing with here is a God-complex; he believes he is greater than these prisoners, greater than civilians, and even greater than you. He believes he can beat you and I know in my mind that although you're probably the most irritating man I've ever met, there would be no way I could beat you so if I were Kira, I'd just give up now."

"You called me L," he said, looking at the girl with the expressionless face he had the majority of the time. (Y/n) shrugged. It hadn't occurred to her that she hadn't called him by his code name, but she didn't exactly see the big deal.
