"Thank you, Light," L said as he stretched his arm out to shake the brunette's hand. (Y/n) watched as Light accepted his handshake with little hesitation, seemingly way too excited than he should've been. Light's gaze shifted from the detective to her, a glint of malice hidden within his stare; she shuddered. Something about the boy's glare gave her an uneasy feeling.

The girl despised the fact that Light was a part of the task force now; given the previous encounters with the boy, she was terrified and knew that now was an even worse and more difficult time to tell L the truth about Light if she valued his life. Ultimately, the detective decided to bring him onto the team and there was no stopping him once he made up his mind.

"Not at all," Light responded with a smile, "after all, I want to catch Kira just as much as you do, Ryuga."

"I'll have to ask that you call me Ryuzaki here," L mumbled in an expressionless tone.

"I'm Matsui," Matsuda chimed in.

"I'm Aihara," muttered Aizawa.

"I'm Asahi," Soichiro told his son.

"And I'm Teruhashi," (Y/n) added.

"Yes, of course," Light said with the same excited tone he's been giving since he arrived, "fake names, of course. Then perhaps I should call myself Light Asahi?"

"Yes, please do. To keep things simple from this point on, I'll call you Light," the pale detective answered back, "okay, let's get down to work. You can start by looking over all the information we've collected. I'd also like you to examine these videos. They were sent to the TV station but were never aired.

"For security reasons, you're not permitted to take notes, and all materials must remain here. We will begin now."

Before clicking the start button on the VCR, L leaned into Light's ear and whispered something to him; the two both looked in (Y/n)'s direction. Light's expression was easy to read; he looked like he wanted to make fun of L for whatever he whispered to him but chose not to. He had the same smug look he's always had, but this time was different: he looked as if he felt unstoppable.

L on the other hand had an expression that (Y/n) couldn't read; she had gotten good at reading the boy's lack of facial expressions but this time she was clueless. She wanted to say he looked nervous, but she wasn't too sure.

The voice of the second Kira played faintly in the background, as (Y/n) blocked it out to the point where it was nothing but a faint hum. She chose to stare off into the distance rather than look at Light; it didn't feel right for her to gaze in his direction.

"So, what do you make of this, Light?" L's voice snapped the girl out of her daze, "have you come to any conclusions?"

"It's hard to say for sure, but there might be another person out there with Kira's power," Light sprung out of his chair and answered the detective.

"With Kira's power?" his father exclaimed, "but what do you mean by that, Light?"

"At the very least, I'd say this tape was not created by the Kira we're familiar with. It's extremely out of character for him to use these kinds of victims for his killings. And since we've established that he needs a name and face to kill, it makes you wonder how he was able to kill that detective and those two officers right outside the television station like that."

"That's almost exactly how L— I mean, Ryuzaki said it," Matsuda told him, his eyes lighting up with awe as to how Light could've known.

Of course Light fucking knew, there's no need to be surprised, Matsuda.

"I think you're exactly right about that. We also believe that this is the work of a second Kira," L said to him.

"So you knew about this all along, Ryuga— sorry. Ryuzaki? Which means this was just another one of your tests?"

"It wasn't my intention to test you. The truth is, if I was the only one who thought there was a second Kira, it wouldn't be too convincing. But the fact that we both came to the same conclusion makes the theory that much more believable. As expected, you did not disappoint us. You've been a great help."

(Y/n) remained silent out of discomfort; she didn't know why L was being so nice to his prime suspect. Matsuda glanced over to the girl and noticed her disturbance and put his arm around her in an attempt to help.

"Hey, turn that frown upside down," he laughed awkwardly, (Y/n) and her frown not moving an inch. The girl couldn't take her eyes off L and Light; if she did, she may miss something important.

"It's decided then," L mumbled, "first, we must focus on stopping this copycat. From what we've seen, he sympathizes with the real Kira but clearly lacks his sophistication. I think he might even be willing to obey the original. If so, we could lure him into a trap by sending our own message from the 'real' Kira."

"I guess I shouldn't be surprised. You literally took the words right out of my mouth," the brunette replied.

"Oh, and Light. I would like you to play the part of the real Kira."

"Huh? Me as Kira?"

Yes, dipshit.

"Yes. You're the only one I can think of who'd be able to pull something like this off. At any rate, we don't have time to waste. Do you think you could script a message from Kira in time for it to be aired on this evening's national news?"

He knows. He knows what I do, he has to.

She finally understood that L believed Light was Kira; it's all been an act— a deception. The detective pretended to be interested in Light's deductive abilities to get him to see how he would fit into the role of Kira. It's all an act. There's no doubt in her mind that's what he's been planning all along.

"What do you think, (Y/n), do you think I'd make a good Kira?" Light asked the girl. Both L and Light turned to face the girl and at this moment she realized Matsuda still had his arm around her.

(Y/n) didn't know what to do, so she chose to remain quiet and stood there, her eyes widening and darting back and forth from the brunette and the raven-haired boy.

Well, this is awkward.

The girl couldn't even bring herself to move out of Matsuda's arm, as he was only trying to comfort her and it seemed rude to hurt his feelings like that; it felt like his heart would shatter if she did anything but comply.

"Matsuda, I know I'm new here and everything and I don't mean to be rude," Light spoke, "but why is your arm around my girlfriend?"
