When I came to the park, I noticed Olivia sitting on a bench

I sat next to her.

"Hey, I got your call. Everything alright?

"Oh yeah, I'm fine, it's just that.. there's something I need to tell you but only if you

Promise not to get mad or anything

"Okay, I won't. So, what is it?

"About the project, it was Blade's idea and we might have helped him build it.

"You did? Why?

"Well, it's just that-

"Wait, I know why, you must have done it to hurt me!

"What? No! That's not why we did it, it's actually the oppos-

"Zayne, wait! You could just listen to me!

"Trust me, I've already have and I've heard enough

And with that I walked out the gates, shutting them behind me

I was so upset that I didn't know who else to go to, so I decided to go to Nick's place

I leaned against his shoulder as he wrapped his arm around me for comfort

"It just sucks, you know? I never expected my friends to do this to me.

"I know. I'm so sorry, man. I wish I could make you feel better

I smiled warmly at that

"You already are".

"Thanks, there's just one thing I need to know. Do you remember that one time when we were holding hands after class, and you decided to, well, you know..

"Break off?

"Yeah..

"Well, I didn't do it on purpose

"I know you didn't, I was just messing with you

"But really, you shouldn't care about what other people think of you. Everyone has a life of their own. The best we can do is do what's best for us

"Yeah, you're right

I was outside sitting on the front porch under the stars when my dad saw me sitting by myself

"Hey. mind if I join you?

"Not at all

"You seem kind of down, what's wrong?

"It's nothing, I guess it has to do with my friends. Sometimes I think it would be better if I just ran away somewhere

"You know something, I used to be exactly in your shoes and thought that things would stay the same. Let me just tell you something, even though things don't look the way you want them to, they'll turn around if you work at it. Here's another thing too; people will always tell you what to do but at the end of the day, what you do is up to you. After all, there is not a single person out there who is better at deciding what's best for you than yourself. You live your life and let others live theirs.

"Thanks, dad

"No problem, that's what I'm here for.

Time skip

"Hey, Nick

I said this as I grabbed his hand

"You don't have to do this for me, you know.

"I know and I'm not doing this for you

I held his hand fully

"I'm doing this for us

This got me a smile from Nick and a couple of stares from onlookers but I didn't care. I was happy and that's all that mattered

I came home from school and couldn't help but look over my dresser drawer. I picked up a photograph of me and my friends laughing and drinking together at a bar, then layed on my bed

"I miss them..." I thought.

I was sitting alone at lunch when Olivia noticed where I was

For some reason, she thought it would be a good idea to talk to me

"Hey.." she said gently

"Hey, what do you want?

"Look Zayne, I'm sorry about what I said yesterday."

"I can tell that what I said must have hurt you and I'm sorry."

"Yeah, no kidding.

"Look, I know that things have been going on and off between us, but I promise you, you'll feel so much better after I tell you the real reason that we decided to do what we did

"There's a reason why we agreed to help Blade out. And don't worry, it wasn't because he bribed us into it or anything. The real reason why we helped out was that, if we didn't, he was gonna force us to swim with the sharks at evergreen. We did it because, even though we knew you would be hurt, we figured you'd be even more hurt if you knew that we got into serious trouble."

Suddenly, I felt better. It seemed like Olivia was right

In the weeks that followed, I noticed that our friendship was getting better and pretty soon, we were getting along again

"Hey guys, I'm sorry for getting mad at you. I'll make a deal; how about we all go out for milkshakes after school?"

"Hey guys, we know that prom is coming up, right?

"So?

"So?? Who are you taking?

Everyone started talking about who they were taking except for me

"What about you, Zayne? Who are you going out to prom with?

"No one in particular. It's just gonna be me and Nick.

"Nick? Isn' t that the new kid at school?"
