Second year
'The Place' was meant to be a secret between Rue's parents but somehow Rue learned of it. According to her it was a hideout of sorts, created by her father, to be an escape in case they needed to hide from danger. What that danger was, they did not know, but it was the best club house any child could ask for.
Neville and Serenity didn't know Teddy, Rue, and I had knowledge of the hideout and we were keen on keeping it that way.
"Well go ahead."
"Very funny Rue, you know what would happen if I were to do that" I say as I roll my eyes.
"Oh but it would be quite funny seeing you land on your arse like you did when we were younger!" She laughs.
When we first learned of The Place, I had been the brave one and attempted to enter first. Unfortunately that resulted in a charm throwing me back a few feet. Luckily I had landed on Teddy, whom was quite large and soft at the time. Rue had not stopped laughing for an hour. Watching her now, it seems she had actually never stopped laughing.
"Truly you know I am joking correct?" She says with a smile.
She offers her hand to me. Something that wasn't new in my life but yet in this moment it felt as if she had done it for the first time. The quiet of the night now seeming too quiet, I could almost hear my heart beat as I stared down at her small delicate hand.
As I slowly placed my hand in her's I almost believed I felt electricity shoot through me. I wondered if she had felt it as well but when I looked up at her she was faced the other way ready to make her way through the tree as if nothing happened.
Why did I feel this way, and why was I slightly disappointed?
As we walked through the portal like door we found ourselves in a small familiar flat.
"Ugh finally!! We can talk freely! And loud!" Rue yells as she slumps onto a nearby sofa.
I choose to sit across from her rather than next to her. I rest my chin on my knuckles as I study her. She turns her face towards me and I can see her face contort into confusion.
"What?" She asks.
"What are you hiding Longbottom? I know it's something. You keep lying to me and you never lie to me. We are here in The Place now so no one will overhear us, this is the best time to tell me." I say as I cross one leg over the other. Fully expecting another lie.
"Well Hellenberg, if you think I don't lie to you often you are far more daft than I thought you to be." She replies with a sly smile.
Her answer left me speechless. Not only did she surprise me by not spewing out another lie but she had admitted to lying more often than I thought. I was taken back to say the least. Just as I began to counter her statement we hear a rustle in the next room over.
