I take my seat at the Gryffindor table with Jasper. "Victoire is right mate, you need to talk to Rue after the sorting and clear the air. You guys are best mates, you don't wanna start the year off like this."
"Jasper I know what you are saying is true, and I know victoire is just trying to help, but Rue and I are different than most friends. We don't just talk things out, she has to decide she wants to before I can even approach her. Trust me." I explain to my friend.
"Fine whatever, but make sure you clap for her when she gets sorted. You know how much she looks up to you and if you don't clap she will likely hex you. If she doesn't James will when you get back home." Jasper jokes.
"Hah! Who told you? Ted?" I question.
"Yeah and Victoire, I think it's cute the little Potter boy has a crush on an older girl. Plus not to be weird, but she is rather pretty. I almost couldn't speak English when she popped into the compartment earlier." Jasper says.
I look to Jasper rather confused. It never crossed my mind that Rue might attract male attention. I always thought she looked pretty, but she was Serenity Longbottom's daughter. Serenity was one of the most beautiful women I had ever known, so of course her daughter would also be attractive. But the thought that Rue might possibly even date someone made my head hurt.
Teddy was an outrageous flirt so it wouldn't surprise me if he got a girfriend, Victoire was part Veela so guys always found her attractive, and I have had a handful of girls flirt with me before but I never worried about that because I thought I was too young. But Rue Longbottom? My best friend? Why was it so hard for me to picture that?
"Jude? Hello???? Jude?" Jasper says as he waves his hand infront of my face.
I shake my head. "Sorry I was deep in thought, what were you saying?"
"I was saying Rue is pretty, but look she is next!" Jasper says as he points up to the front.
I watch as Rue makes her way up to the stool. Unlike most of the other first years, she doesn't seem nervous at all. I watch as her father gives her a thumbs up before she sits down. She returns the thumbs up and takes a seat.
I hear whispers and murmurs around me.
"Who is she?"
"Is that Mr. Longbottom's daughter?"
"She is gorgeous!"
"I hope she gets in our house."
I try to block out the noise around me and pay attention to Rue at the front. Headmistress Mcgonagall lowers the hat onto Rue's head and only about 5 seconds later he yells out.
Everything happens so fast I don't know what to do.
I'm frozen. One house cheers for her as she makes her way over but I can't hear it, it's as if the whole hall is silent. Everything moving in slow motion.
