After that day in the library I started tutoring Rue. She obviously was lying about not doing well in DADA because she would always finish the work rather quickly and it would just turn into us chatting for an hour or two, which I had no problem with.
As she finished her work today I see the time book she had checked out was sitting next to her on the table. I reach over and flip through the pages.
"Time travel in a whole is dangerous, one can not predict what can come out of changing even the smallest of things. Fate is inevitable, even if that should include-"
I feel the book quickly snatched from my hands.
"Jude, aren't you supposed to be helping me with this?" Rue complains.
I roll my eyes. "Rue, I know you don't actually need help in this class."
Rue drops her quill and glares at me. "Then why in the Merlin have we been doing this for the past 2 weeks!?!" She yells.
"I liked spending time with you." I reply simply. Grabbing the book back and turning it around few times in my hands.
Rue sits surprised at my answer. Her face red with blush. She watches as I flip the small book around with ease.
I look up from my fidgeting to see her staring. She quickly shakes her thoughts from her head before taking the book from my hands again.
"Why a book based on time? Why the sudden interest?" I question.
"I- because-" she stutters. She doesn't meet my eyes but instead looks deep in thought looking at the floor.
"Rue, I'm your best friend right?"
She looks back up at me. "Yeah, best friend." She replies.
"Then You can tell me, I promise whatever it is it will be fine." I say with a small smile.
"Well, you see, when I was younger may parents found out I was-"
"JUDE!" I hear someone yell from behind us.
Rue and I both turn to see Deanne walking into the library with purpose.
"Jude, we need you in the locker room." She says.
"Wood, I'm kinda in the middle of something." I reply motioning towards Rue and our school work.
"You can have a study date later Jude, this is serious!" She exclaims while grabbing my collar and pulling me away from the table. I stumble trying to find my footing. I look back to see Rue concerned about the whole situation.
"Sorry!" I yell out. Before we leave the library I see Rue plop back down in her chair and bury her face in her hands.
As we make our way towards the quidditch field I wonder what it was Rue was going to tell me. It was something about her childhood, meaning it was something she kept a secret all this time. We had grown up together, I was there when she was born, what else did I not know about her? I was starting to wonder if we were as close as I thought we were. ....
