Chapter Ten

[Your POV]

I clutched Leo's shell as he hopped from rooftop to rooftop. I looked out at the city, staring at the glowing lights of the night. New York City was beautiful at night. I told myself that so I could distract myself from the panicked feeling overtaking my chest. April and the others were in danger. We'd be lucky if we made it there in time before they were either destroyed or captured. I suddenly felt uneasy once again.

Leo stopped on a rooftop. "Do you need another break?" I asked, hopping off his shell, struggling with my injured ankle. He set his hand on my shoulder, balancing me himself. We had taken three breaks so far.

"No, we're here." Leo said. He sneaked to the side of the building and I hobbled after him. We peeked over the edge of the rooftop. Mikey, April, Casey, Donnie, and Raph were fighting off an army of Kraang bots in an alleyway between two apartment buildings.

"How are there so many?" I asked. Then it hit me. I looked at the entrance of the alleyway. There was a portal! A triangle portal with Kraang bots marching through. I tapped Leo on the shoulder and pointed towards the portal. None of the bots had noticed us yet, and neither had any of the others. If we could destroy the device keeping the portal open, we'd only have to deal with the Kraang bots that were currently attacking us. I wasn't sure if the turtles had encountered the portals before, but if not, I could show them what to do. I looked to Leo and he nodded, pulling out a shuriken and throwing it towards the device. It hit the Kraang tech and the portal closed. The Kraang bot, who had been the last one to walk out of the portal before it closed, turned around and saw the device.

"The portal has closed!" The Kraang bot shouted, alerting the other bots. "Destroy the ones known as The Turtles!"

"Stay here." Leo said, pulling out one of his katanas.

"But I wanna-" I started, but Leo was having none of it.

"You can't fight." Leo said. "At least not now. I'll protect you. Stay here." I hesitated, then nodded. He smiled at me and jumped from the rooftop and into action. I felt butterflies dance around in my stomach as he fought the Kraang bravely. 

"Took you long enough, 'fearless leader'!" Raph groaned. I sighed and leaned against the edge of the building. Then I felt a thunderous thump behind me. I whipped around, seeing Tigerclaw turn off his jetpack.

"We meet again, my runaway student." Tigerclaw said. "You're even more defenceless then last time."

"I'm not your student and I never was." I spat, getting to my feet. It was a struggle, but I managed.

"You're one rebellious child." He said, pulling out one of his guns. "That's a problem. I'd kill you right now if Master Shredder didn't want you alive."

"Why would he want me alive?" I asked. "He's got plenty of other kids to enslave or whatever he plans to do with them."

"You show great skills physically. Master Shredder thinks you'll be quite an asset to his army. Especially now that you have managed to befriend the turtles. You're coming back to the lair with me, and we'll have you trained properly." Tigerclaw said, almost in a caring manner.

"You manipulative bastard." I spat. He stopped short, squinting. Almost as if he couldn't quite process what I just said. "You're just some mindless henchman to Shredder! You're pathetic! You could be using your intelligence and skills to become an ACTUAL teacher! A mentor! Instead, you're working for an oversized cheese grater!" Tigerclaw punched me in the face, throwing me to the ground. I winced when my ankle moved. I attempted to get up, but he grabbed the back of my head, pressing my face against the rooftop.

"You disrespectful cub! You know nothing." Tigerclaw gritted his teeth. He kicked my ankle, causing me to cry out. He moved me so I was on my back and grabbed me by the throat. "You know nothing. You have not seen the things I've seen. You're too young to even comprehend the opportunity Shredder is giving you."

"Old man." I growled. He tightened his grip and bore his fangs.

"...You know, Master Shredder never told me how he wanted you. He didn't say to bring you back in one piece. Just alive. Maybe I should mangle your face before we get going." He growled and held up his hand, claws out. I scowled at him, attempting to show no signs of fear. But to be honest, I was terrified. 

"Hey!" A familiar voice called out, catching Tigerclaw's attention. That voice...I recognised it. But could it actually be her? Or was I just imagining things? After all, I was losing oxygen. It wouldn't surprise me if I started hallucinating. "Take this, kitty!" Tigerclaw was suddenly drenched in a pink foam. He inhaled and started gagging.

"Ugh! UGH! What is that stench!?" Tigerclaw shouted, looking behind him at whoever shot him with the foam. He gagged some more. He gagged to the point that he couldn't breathe. He let go of me and turned towards the person. "...YOU!"

"That's right!" Veronica said. "Want some more?" I looked over at her, dazed. She held some kind of gun with foam seeping out.

"Shoot that thing again and I'll kill you!" Tigerclaw shouted, enraged. I had never seen him so pissed off before. 

"You can't do that! This is a kids show!" Veronica yelled.

"Uh, Veronica..." I mumbled, thinking about all the characters that die in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

"Don't move, (Y/N)!" She shouted, shooting at Tigerclaw again. He, once again, wasn't able to dodge the foam. He stopped dead in his tracks and looked like he was about to hurl.

"I'll be back." Tigerclaw said, glaring at me, despite hardly being able to even stand up straight. "You'll both bow to Master Shredder."

"In your dreams." I said hoarsely. He scowled and took off with his jetpack. At that moment, the turtles and April and Casey climbed onto the rooftop.

"Sorry that took so long-" Leo started, then he saw me. "(Y/N)!"

"Oi, who are you?" Raph asked, pointing his weapon towards Veronica. She was shaking like a leaf. Leo helped me into a sitting position.

"Veronica, are you okay?" I asked.

"Confidence boost...gone..." She mumbled, dropping her weapon and fainting. Raph sighed and Mikey ran to Veronica's side.

Mikey looked up at everyone. "Can we keep her too!?"
