Chapter Fourteen

[Leo's POV]

When I came to, I was in the abandoned shaft...alone. I shot up, only for a pain to shoot through my chest. I clutched my plastron and coughed roughly. My vision was still a bit blurry. I rubbed my head and called out their name. "...(Y/N)!" My voice was hoarse and I felt an acidic taste in the back of my throat. I rubbed my eyes, only to flinch at the pain. I must have two black eyes. I wiped some blood from my busted lip, the taste of it still potent in my mouth.

My vision came back to normal and I took my time to check my surroundings. I was alone. (Y/N) was nowhere to be seen. I closed my eyes, the memories playing in my head.

"(Y/N)..." I whispered, their teary eyed face ingrained in my mind. I squinted and let out a deep sigh. The memory of Tigerclaw grabbing them, hurting them... I seethed, attempting to stand up. I leaned against the wall for support.

"LEO!" I heard someone shout. I looked up to see Raph and Mikey appear from one of the tunnel mouths. They both immediately jumped to help me, wrapping my arms around their shoulders.

"Leo, are you good, dude?" Mikey asked, looking me up and down.

"What happened? Where's (Y/N)?" Raph asked, his eyes darting to each tunnel entrance.

"We were ambushed. Rahzar...Fishface, Bebop, Rocksteady, and Tigerclaw were all here. He took them. Tigerclaw, he took..." I gritted my teeth. "I should've been stronger..."

"Leo..." Mikey said.

"...We need to get rid of the box."

"What?" Raph asked.

"Call Donnie and the others."

With the help of Raph and Mikey, I was able to hobble back to the lair. April, Casey, Donnie, and Veronica were there waiting for us. Splinter still had the box in the dojo. "Oh my god, Leo." Donnie muttered. "Bring him to the lab."

While Donnie cleaned up my bloody lip and applied ointment to my plastron, I told my brothers about everything that happened. Everything about the Box of Beasts that Tigerclaw had said. "We need to get rid of it as soon as possible." I said.

"Leo, if Tigerclaw knew you were there...he could have said that on purpose to trick you." Donnie said.

"Or he wants us to catch the Yara-Ma-Yha-Who and turn in the box in exchange for (Y/N)." Veronica countered. "He had to have left Leo to relay the message to us for some reason."

"We can't give them the box." April said.

"Yeah no kidding." Casey said.

"But how will we get (Y/N) back?" Mikey wondered. I gazed at the ground with glassy eyes. Raph noticed and waved his hand in front of my face.

"Leo, even if we give them the box, I don't think they'll give us (Y/N)." He said. I slumped my shoulders, holding my head in my hands. Raph looked around the room. "Can you guys, uh?" Everyone cleared out of the room and Raph pulled up a chair next to mine. I looked up, confused as to why everyone left. "Leo, you're gonna hate me for this. But I totally eavesdropped on your conversation with Splinter earlier." I blushed in embarrassment. "And so did (Y/N)." My face went bright red.

"W-Why?" I asked.

"Oh, well I actually saw (Y/N) outside of the dojo and thought it would be funny. Now, this is probably gonna be one of the few times I reiterate any of Splinter's advice." Raph said, putting a hand on my shoulder. "Follow your heart. If your heart is telling you that you need to go and save (Y/N) - maybe for more then one reason - then you gotta do it."
