BENTLEY
I had the headset on this time. They had changed the route again, and this time Harry and I were going head to head for the lead. I hadn't blocked him in time and we were both going at the same speed.
I was also racing in the Pontiac because Rumer and Zayn realized they needed even more parts, so we had to wait for the shipments to come in from Tokyo and Seoul. I felt more relaxed, especially since I had had the past few days pretty much to myself. I slept in the dilapidated loft above the shop last night because I just needed some time to myself. I would have Rumer and Zayn stay there, but it was too small for both of them and they came together, separating them was not something I wanted to do.
Tensions were even higher between the Lions and the Kings now too, because Campbell Deacon, the head engineer for the Lions, died in a freak accident. The Lions were down a vital part of this whole ordeal, and it wasn't easy to get engineers and mechanics involved in gang affairs without blackmail. It's safe to say the Lions were no longer my biggest threat, at least not until they got a new crew leader to make sure their cars were in shape.
Back to Harry.
Luna's out of town, so he's here alone tonight. Luna's right hand, Bruce, was watching him before he took off, but the second we started, he got in his car and left. I take a quick look to my right and notice Harry looking straight at me, eyes off the road.
Fuck, everytime my eyes locked to his I felt my stomach drop. He was haunting me lately... I hated the feeling. I had never seen someone with such raw power radiating off of him succumb to Luna either. He was angry, and everyone could tell. Rumer had told me about their run in and his attitude, and even though I had walked past his apartment a few times hoping to run into him, I had no luck.
I doubt he knew he had moved into my building, considering Rumer never even told him his name. I bet he knew about Rumer now, especially after seeing him behind me when I won the race a few days ago.
Speaking of Rumer, he had been a great help the past few days. He was able to calm me down about the idea of tying against Harry, which explains why I'm not completely losing my shit right now. A tie wasn't a bad thing, because it meant Harry and I split the first and second place money, and although my ego didn't like the idea, at least tying wasn't Harry winning.
I didn't believe it but I knew Rumer had tried his best, so I tried my very best to convince myself that I was okay trying.
Apollo was wrong, I didn't regret calling them. Z and Rumer kept me grounded lately, and I had been alternating medicating days. Luckily I had been okay, but I needed to take them tomorrow as a preventative measure.
Especially if I tied against Harry.
It looks like that might be the result of this race because this Pontiac wasn't going any faster, and if Harry tried to go any faster with that outdated Caprice, he'd kill it.
I move my eyes back to the road and away from Harry's, and I can feel his light eyes stuck on me. Can he get his eyes back on the road? The familiar colored lights and bass of the music were straight ahead.
"Zayn, what do I do?"
"B, there's really nothing at this point. It's a straight line and you're pushing the car to the limit babe. Just don't let him get ahead of you." he says, tone a little defeated.
