HARRY

THE NEXT DAY

Bentley's currently with Zayn, Dorian, Apollo and Allergy at Louis' shop.

I didn't go in because I plan on trying to see Emmy today.

I felt more secure now that everyone was together and armed at the shop, and I knew where Emmy frequented. I had spoken to Niall and he got me in touch with the people watching over her, so I knew I'd have some time to see her today, as much as I opposed the idea.

I thought a lot about it before stepping out of my flat but so far, everything had gone according to plan and this was the day Bentley wanted me to set aside for her. I hadn't seen my younger sister since I moved to Oakland in the spring and we haven't spoken much recently either.

I paid for the next semester of schooling at Regent's the week after Rumer died and she had sent me a message thanking me, alongside a photograph of her and her family, the Adlers.

Well, I'm standing outside her workplace now, ready to see her.

I open the door to the quaint teahouse, a little bell ringing over my head as I make my entrance. She doesn't know I'm coming and quite frankly, I'm a bit nervous.

I walk in slowly, making my way to the counter. She's standing behind it, hair up in a ponytail and she's wearing a dotted apron across her torso. I

She looks bored, and I knew she didn't like this job. The old women who worked here were always kind to her, as she shared previously, but that's what they were. Old women. Not too many people were here now and the lack of trash in the bin hinted that it had been a slow day.

"May I have a black tea with a splash of milk and a blueberry scone with clotted cream?" I ask, waiting for her to-

"That's funny, that's actually my brother's ord- Haz!" She exclaimed excitedly, and the other women behind the counter looked up in surprise.

"Hi Emmy." I say, smiling at her.

Fuck, I missed her so much.

Her hair was longer and her nails were painted a subtle violet, a few bracelets from past birthdays sprinkling across her wrists.

She turns her head to look at her bosses, who wave her off and smile. She pulls off the apron and comes across the other side of the counter, running to embrace me, burying her face in my chest.

The impact made my face ache a bit. I was definitely bruised on my jaw because of Bentley letting Louis punch me across the face, but she hadn't noticed yet.

"I can't believe you're home." She exhales, and I hold her a little tighter, savoring the moment. "What are you doing home? Is that a bruise?"

"I'm here for the next few days, business meetings and all that. And I fell down my stairs yesterday" I lie.

The unspoken issue between Emmy and I was that I could never really come clean about my job. She'd never look at me the same. She grew up with morals, morals I'll never have, and I didn't want her to compromise them for my sake. I knew she loved me, and I had a feeling that deep down she'd forgive me, but I'd always be the same to her within. A murderer.
