TO SAY that Sara was tired would be an understatement. She was a fucking mess. Memories of yesterday's events shot through her head, replaying them over and over again through her mind.

It was the end of the school day, students rushing to get into their cars and drive home — away from the stress of school. Sara had her earphones in, the sound of Needles and Pins by The Ramones blasting into her ears. She held her work and textbooks in her hand as she walked, carrying them closely against her chest. From across the lot, her eyes met the beautiful gold of Jasper's. He stared at her darkly — so intense that she had to look away.

She turned her head away from the Cullens and her eyes met the familiar brown ones of Bella Swan. She sent her a smile as she walked across the lot, pulling out her earphones when she had finally met her. "Hey, babe, what are you doing?" She asked curiously, scanning over the workbook she had open on her car. "Physics — Mr.West is homework obsessed." The two girls laughed together as they began to go over the homework for that night. Then it happened.

Tires screeched loudly, the painfully loud sound of friction filling both girl's ears. Sara watched in horror as everything seemed to slow down. She couldn't let her best friend die like this. Before she knew it, Sara had thrown herself in front of Bella Swan, her arms wrapping around her as she tried to protect her as much as she could.

And then there was nothing.

The silence rang in her ears, her heart pounding so loud as she opened her green eyes. Was she dead? She felt someone shift beneath and above her and she met the eyes of Edward Cullen. She could feel cold arms wrapped around her waist and then she locked eyes with none other than Jasper Hale.

His eyes were dark — a large contrast from the golden honey color that filled them earlier. He took one last look at her before he gracefully stood, jumping over the green van. Edward followed, casting the two girls soft gazes.

And then the silence was gone. Students screamed, calling for the two girls desperately. Sara blocked out the voices, turning to look at Bella beneath her with wide eyes. She stared back at her, shock and horror present in her face.

Not only were the Cullens across the lot when the car had reached them, but both boys seemed to wedge themselves between the girls to right before the van had hit —

They shouldn't be alive.

Jasper had shielded the girls, his arms wrapping around both Sara and Bella while Edward pushed the van back, a large dent being left in the side of the van.

They should be dead.

After a late-night of dreaming, she found herself waking up about half an hour later than she needed, meaning she was already late for school. Throughout the night, she felt as if someone was watching her, spying on her and her every move —

As she rushed to get dressed, she yawned about 20 times before she was finally able to get downstairs.

It was Friday, meaning she had almost officially survived five days of a new school. She had to admit it wasn't so bad.

She and Bella Swan had become close throughout the week, enjoying each other's company amongst the chaos of Forks High School. She grew to become comfortable around the shyness and quiet that surrounded Bella, growing accustomed to the peacefulness. She didn't, however, enjoy the company of Jessica Stanley very much. No matter where they were, she seemed always to have some sort of drama to talk about.

Now Sara was alright with the occasional gossip, but even five times a day was too much for her. Not only that, but Sara knew exactly what it felt like to be the center of scandals — and it really sucked. Aside from the drama part, Jessica seemed to actually be alright. Sara could feel herself becoming more and more comfortable in the friend group. She felt surprisingly good about her week here.
